Suggestion: Lane Discipline for turning traffic.
There is a constant problem being faced where lane driving is
absolutely forgotten by many vehicles. This cannot be afforded in a
scenario where road space is falling short day-by-day. I would like to
mention a specific situation where straight going traffic occupies (on
red light) the road and prevent traffic from taking right/left turn
(on green light) or vice versa.
There can be several such crossings from where this example can be
seen resulting in long Q and wastage of green light time e.g. on RTR
Outer Ring Road T point it often happens. Those who want to take a
right/left turn below the bridge (while heading towards Munirka) are
prevented as the road is blocked by straight going traffic. This
problem exists all over Delhi on almost all of the crossings & T
points.
Some years ago traffic police had come out with yellow boxed made on
left turn points, no one was allowed to stop the vehicle on yellow
boxes so that that particular space is not blocked and left turn
remains free. These boxes are effective in most of the cases and can
resolve the issue to a great extent. I, therefore, think TP should
seriously consider revival of such yellow boxes all over Delhi. Lane
dedication must be earmarked on all big crossing at least 60 metre
before the crossing and 30 metres on small crossings.
I request TP must come out strongly to enforce lane discipline with
particular reference to blocking of others way by:
a) Sensitizing people thru radio/paper advertisements and
b) Issuing challans.
Thanks
Yours faithfully,
