I just don't understand the social responsibilities of the societies out there.....
they just cut off the trees of the apartments and leave them free on the footpaths outside....

Just look at the boundary wall of 'SHIVALIK APARTMENTS SECTOR 6'....They had cut down the trees and have let them loose and haven't disposed them off as yet its been a week....i just don't understand how can the residents of this society allow such a thing to be happening...Then people come out saying that the MCD doesn't clean up the roads.....I dont know how can acts like these contribute towards keeping the service lanes and the city clean....

I suggest take the photo, if possible.
Action should be taken for this type of careless work. We may forward the picture to Media / newspapers & concerned departments. Responsible persons should be answerable.

thanks

This is practical problem I found in most of the sectors in Dwarka.
The CGHS management time to time prune the trees or grass and leave the leaves and other things either on any of the pedestrain paths, roads sides, or on any of the vacant plot. Neither the MCD nor the DDA cleans it.

As a matter of fact DDA Horticulture also dump after pruning the leaves etc on the roads side. However, recently the Dy. Director Horticulture promised to build Manure Pits in all sectors Parks.

So the respective CGHS managment should guide their malis/cleaner to dump them in Manure Pits and if not one create one in cooperation/coordination with DDA.

The case is also with RENOVATION/REPAIR/CONSTRUCTION MALBA.. Main problem there is no policy by Govt/DDA/MCD to dispose of the construction/repair/renovation malba, we demanded the DDA Board to consider in our memorandums. Lets hope some results.

DDA recently removed some malba and repainting the curbstone edges of roads near sector 22 being brought to my notice, i hope rest of Dwarka will also be doing the same. If not please contact respective  AE/JE/XE  of SW(No.) to get the work done before monsoon.

Mr. Puri,

I am a resident of Shivalik.  We are your neighbours. I would definitely would like to meet you sometime.

Now coming to the point - We are aware of it. Yes our mali has been prunning the hedges along the walls. He has not completed the job as yet. Thats why it has been lying on the sidewalks. He is expected to finish this week end and this will all be removed in one go. It is not possible for him to take it in one thela. So he has left it on our side walk only. We will ensure it is cleard as soon as the work is completed.

BTW There is no exception to this issue. This is true for all societies. Even while the same pruning was happening in your scoeity the cut trees/shrubs were all lying on the side walk.  You can move a bit ahead at the entrance of the park near Bhawalpur apartments..infact the whole entrace is blocked with garbage...and every apartment's mali dumps the cut trees and shrubs there..because we (Dwarka) do not have a big garbage dump and the blue and green bins are not big enough and you are not supposed to dump cut shurbs and trees in these bins as the MCD guys are not responsible for clearing it. MCD says it is the Horticulture Departments job!!!!!

I have been raising this issue and have been in touch with MCD guys.  But still there is no sign of proper solution to this problem.

Anyway, I have spoken to the MCD guys today and requested them to clear the full lane including the cut shrubs (mind you they are doing it only on my request) by Tuesday, next week.

Mr. Puri, have you been in touch with the MCD guys?   Where they able to tell you where to dump this cut shrubs and trees? Please update us. It will be good to know so that we can all follow.

Regards,
Sudha

Reji,

I have just responded to Mr. Puri's email.  Please see my response below:

This is practical problem I found in most of the sectors in Dwarka.
The CGHS management time to time prune the trees or grass and leave the leaves and other things either on any of the pedestrain paths, roads sides, or on any of the vacant plot. Neither the MCD nor the DDA cleans it. (CORRECT. COMPLETELY AGREE)

As a matter of fact DDA Horticulture also dump after pruning the leaves etc on the roads side. However, recently the Dy. Director Horticulture promised to build Manure Pits in all sectors Parks.  (OK. HAS THE LOCATION BEEN IDENTIFIED YET IN ALL SECTORS?)

So the respective CGHS managment should guide their malis/cleaner to dump them in Manure Pits and if not one create one in cooperation/coordination with DDA. (ANY IDEA OF THE TIMLINE BY WHEN THESE MANURE PITS WILL BE BUILD. SURE IT WILL SOLVE THIS PROBLEM ATLEAST)

(YES. AT PRESENT ALL THE MALBA IN OUR LANE IS DUMPED ON THE TRIANGULAR PLOTS ON THE CORNER..WHICH IS A COMPLETELY AN EYE SORE..WHICH WE DISCUSSED FEW DAYS BACK).

DDA recently removed some malba and repainting the curbstone edges of roads near sector 22 being brought to my notice, i hope rest of Dwarka will also be doing the same. If not please contact respective  AE/JE/XE  of SW(No.) to get the work done before monsoon. (I TOO HOPE PEOPLE ACT AND TAKE SOME INITIATIVE ON THEIR OWN ALSO RATHER THAN WAITING FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO ACT. IT ALWAYS HELPS.)

We, collectively as a society, have become so insensitive to our surroundings that we would shut our eyes to whatever unacceptable is happening around.

Not only that, we have chosen the easy way out which is to criticize sitting in an airconditioned room without understanding  our own responsibility towards our surroundings.

Leave alone defending our collective common cause(s), we do not even dare defending our own cause and choose to become silent victims to the anti social activities.

Now that this forum has become big, some of us must go and talk to the management of Shivalik and sensitize them to clean the passage for others' use.  If that doesn't happen, photograph the even and lodge a common complaint to the local MCD who may challan the society but it needs some follow up and effort?? Some of us may have to take that responsibility which is the critical point.

The lack of civic sense is not confined to Shivalik Apartments. A number of others too dump the tree cuttings, grass etc. on the footpaths with no concern for the public. Some dump them on the footpaths a little away so that their own frontage is not spoiled.
Unless the MCD starts slapping hefty fines, I doubt if people will shed such uncouth ways. It should be made the responsibility of the societies, and not the MCD's, to keep their surroundings clean. Fine those who fail to do so.

We should close this particular Shivalik issue now that Mrs Sudha Iyer
has provided the response. As a very valued member, she has always
taken lead in many efforts and is civic conscious.

Agreed to close this thread with this news..may get IMPLIMENTED -thx to all.

The MCD has also been framing a bylaw to prevent littering, spitting and urinating in public. “The bylaw will involve higher fines for civic offenders, which will be handed out on the spot,” Mayor Kanwar Sain said.

With the year’s Commonwealth Games in mind, various civic bodies in the city plan to initiate awareness drives and harsher anti-littering measures to ensure that citizens play their part in keeping the city clean during the mega event.

According to officials, the NDMC plans to distribute awareness pamphlets and make public announcements to inform the citizens about their duty towards cleanliness. The civic body has put up advertisements in areas under its jurisdiction asking people to keep the city clean. Like its earlier cleanliness drives, NDMC also has announced penalty for civic offenders.

The health and welfare department officials, however, admit that penal provisions are not enough to deter littering and spitting. “People usually throw garbage on roads from their cars and drive away. There should be provision to alert the traffic police so that such offenders can be caught and fined,” said Rajender Singh, Deputy Commissioner, MCD. Singh is in-charge of improving sanitation standards in all six zones of the civic body.

I beg to differ. Our society does not allow malis to dump tree cuttings or anything on the road or sidewalks.

After the reply by Mrs. Sudha, the matter should have not focused on Shivalik.  She has given the sound reasons for delay in removing malwa/plants.  However, general discussion for the awareness of members may have continued. V all are members of a Forum working for better Dwarka and should not raise fingers on each other without any cogent reason.

Mr. Puri,

I am a resident of Shivalik Apartments. Yesterday I have read your mail on the cut shrubs lying on our side walk. For your information they were all cleared yesterday only. But i would like to ask you few things related to this.Is there any method by which you can prune the shrubs on the side of youe society without getting them fall on the floor. Where were u ( probably sleeping) when your society was doing the same and  the cut trees and shrubs were lying for over a month in front of your society.  What did you do then. Dumb them in front of the gate of the park!

Its very easy to point fingers and complain and keep blogging on this forum. Clicking photographs alone does not help.  Have you followed up with the concerned MCD representatives.  What was their response, have you bothered to share it with the Forum. There are many issues which we can point out but will refrain from doing it as of now. If you had so much trouble you should have contacted our societies office and spoken to a responsible person before complaining in the forum. Inspite of my repeatdly requests in the past to your management and your society guards for not allowing kabariwalas to throw entire kachra of dustbin (placed outside your society by MCD) on the road to collect plastic bags. It is still going on and none of u bothered for this.Same fate I met in Bhagalpur society and Kalka soc. Then why u hav created so much fuss for Shivalik apt only.

Infact we at Shivalik take more care of our environent and cleanliness than other societies in our lane. Even for re-carpeting of the road in our lane..we ONLY took initiative, made several calls, met with authorities before the road was re-laid.

So please refrain from making comments and complaints pertaining to individual societies. The complaint addressed by you is common to all soceities including yours. So its best to keep the discussions on common problems.

Do feel free to come around and meet with us and we can discuss.

regards,

Sunil
