6 new sports complexes on the cards
NEW DELHI: Sports infrastructure is all set to get a boost with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) mulling the construction of six new sports complexes in areas like Rohini, Narela and Dwarka. While the Narela complex is expected to be opened to the public soon, the others may take two to three years to be completed.
Four out of the six complexes will be housed in Dwarka with plans for two of them having been approved by DDA's screening committee. They are being constructed under the provisions of Master Plan 2021.
"The sports complex in Narela is almost complete. The cricket, basketball and volleyball grounds are ready but we still have to build the administration block. Once the work is through, the complex will be opened to the public. The complex in Rohini will be constructed in a green area in Sector-24. The remaining complexes will come up in Dwarka Sectors 8, 17, 19 and 23. Two of these, in Sectors 8 and 17 have got the screening committee's nod and should be ready in another two years,'' added an official. There is already a DDA sports complex in Dwarka, Sector 11.
All these complexes were part of the budget estimate for the year 2011-2012, under which Rs 84 crore was allocated for sports and recreational activities. "These complexes will provide facilities for sports like basketball, cricket, football etc,'' added an official.
Meanwhile, the land agency claimed that Games Village Sports Complex would also be thrown open to the public soon. "The fencing work will be awarded soon. Once that is over, the complex can be opened to the public,'' said an official. DDA is proposing to introduce a 'pay and play policy' for those wanting to use the sports complex.
According to DDA officials, while the Village already boasts of an athletic ground, a football field and a gym, the authority will provide more sports facilities in the coming months before it opens up the complex for public use. "While a number of sports areas have already been developed in the Village, we are planning to demarcate space to develop a cricket ground outdoors. Besides this, an indoor badminton court is also on the cards. We will provide required space for table tennis, aerobics and yoga too. We are not introducing any membership fee at the moment. Anyone wanting to use these facilities will have to pay a nominal amount,'' added an official. The land agency presently runs 14 sports complexes, including the recently upgraded Siri Fort Complex and Yamuna Sports Complex.

Subject: Demand for Play Grounds and Fast Track Development of Sports Complex Dwarka
You may recall our request in the past for sports complex and response from your department dated 1/9/2009.
As you may well aware that the Dwarka Sub-City and its sports complex should have been ready before inhabitation(Current population is over 6 lakh residents). The Sector 11 sports complex is one of the maximum membership and highest revenue collector compare with other sports complex of DDA.
As reported, the development of sports complex of Sector 8, 17 and 19 are in finalisation process.
Considering this we would like to request the following immediately:
A. Boundary walls for all designated sports complex.
B. Fill all the ground with earth and level them for playing crickets, footballs etc
The Sector 23 Sports Complex may develop as the 1st model then replicate.
This would help the growing children’s to develop sports in neighbourhoods and also encourage them to refrain from using the green parks and lawns. Currently young and adults are using the parks and damaging them in the absence of play grounds.
We would much appreciate if we you can look into this matter and expedite the process at the earliest.

The final approval is given by the FM-DDA. The above is granted for permanent Membership. Temporary Membership for 3 months can be granted by Sports Complex Level.

The Delhi Development Authority’s sports division plans to break ground on a Phil Ryan-designed golf complex early this year.
DDA Dwarka Golf Course will be the first “international-standard” track in metropolitan New Delhi. It’s to be built on 170 acres in Dwarka, a DDA-designed mini-city that’s spreading rapidly over more than 14,000 acres and will include houses, office space, retail/commercial areas, and a “diplomatic enclave.”
DDA controls 70,000 acres in and around the city. It opened Qutub Golf Course, which is said to be the first public course in India, in 2002, and it’s building Bhalaswa Golf Course, which opened three holes in 2003 and currently has six holes. Bhalaswa will eventually become a full 18.
Ryan, the principal of Victoria, Australia-based Pacific Coast Design, has designed at least five golf courses in India, including Eagleton Golf Village in suburban Bangalore, Poona Golf Club in Pune, and JW Golf Club in Mysore.
He’s part of a group called New Millennium Company that was awarded the commission to build the Dwarka project in 2008. New Millennium plans to build a 7,208-yard course, a nine-hole, par-3 course, and a lighted golf academy. It hopes to open the facility in late 2012.
Ryan tells us that he’s spending most of his time these days in China, where he has two courses under construction and three in planning.

Dear Rejimon,It was very good news that DD has agreed / sanction for 6 play Fields in various parks.I shall be obliged if you please intimate me the status of a BIGGEST PARK located in front of Block A sector 8.Is this Park covered under any development scheme? My house is A-153 & located in front of the said Park which is lying neglected since its inception.There ia also a drain made by the DD 7-8 years back and which a source of mosquito related disease as there no flow of water. I too met the DDA officials twice there is no action at all. I understand Shri Arvinder Chhatwal also took the case but I hope there is no progress.I request you to guide me where and to whom I should take this problem and proceed the subject matter.With due kind wishes always.Major Mehar Sood (Veteran)

"The architectural drawing of the stadium is also in its final stages and it will be put presented in front of the screening committee of DDA very soon," said a senior DDA official, who did not wish to be identified.
"The budget for the stadium is more than R100 crore and construction will begin as soon as the plan is finalised," he said.
Apart from the football stadium, DDA is also constructing two new sports complexes in Dwarka’s sectors 17 and 8. A sports complex in Dwarka’s sector 11 is already operational.
Development plans and architectural drawings of the two sports complexes are ready and are awaiting approval. Apart from the football stadium in Dwarka, DDA also plans to build a football stadium in the trans-Yamuna area.
"The football stadium in Dwarka will have all ancillary facilities found in any modern stadium," the DDA official said.
"It is a very good step by DDA that will help popularise the sport in the Capital," said NK Bhatia, vice president of the Delhi Soccer Association.
"If two stadiums come up in the east and west parts of Delhi, many more people will have easy access to it," he said, adding, "We will be able to catch young talent if they have the opportunity to play near their home."
