MORTH/E/2025/0006721

My concern regards recent painting of zebra crossings on the newly constructed NHAI 248BB, 344M, & connected sections. It is evident that the placement of these crossings appears to be haphazard and lacks proper planning for safe & effective pedestrian road crossings

Observations indicate haphazrd  painting of zebra crossing

•           Directly in front of iron grills and walls, obstructing pedestrian access.

•           Across planters & areas of soft soil, rendering them unusable

•           On surfaces with significant height differences, posing a risk

While the highway construction appears to utilize modern techniques, this fundamental aspect of pedestrian safety seems to have been overlooked. There appears to be a lack of coordination and comprehensive planning among the various teams involved in the construction process. For instance, landscaping elements such as planters and installation of iron grills appear to have been implemented without considering the necessary space for pedestrian crossings. This suggests a disjointed approach where individual tasks were executed without a unified vision for pedestrian infrastructure.

This apparent oversight raises serious questions about the planning and execution of pedestrian safety measures on this project. I request a thorough investigation into this matter to determine:

1.         The extent of this issue on NHAI 248BB, 344M, and other newly constructed sections.

2.         The reasons behind this apparent lack of planning and coordination.

3.         The responsible parties for this oversight.

4.         The measures that will be taken to rectify these improperly placed zebra crossings and ensure safe pedestrian access.

5.         Whether this is an isolated incident or a systemic issue in other NHAI construction projects.

Prioritizing pedestrian safety is crucial for any road infrastructure project. I request immediate attention.
