Sir,

Concerned Departments: Employees Provident Fund Organisation.

Sub: Procedure to merge 2 accounts.

In the private sector, it is very common for an employee to change multiple jobs in full career span thereby having multiple accounts under one Universal Account Number (UAN). Though several procedures in EPFO have been simplified and have been made independent of the employer, the merging of multiple accounts is still dependent on employer and has not been dispensed with. If your accounts are not merged than even after leaving the employment one is dependent on employer to forward the merging application of employee to EPFO. Irrespective of facts, whether your employer is not co-operating, employer entity is wound up or is not traceable there is no way you can apply for the merger of 2 accounts. Despite the fact that now the UAN with EPFO is Aadhar linked and the amount can be withdrawn from account through online means without involvement of employer, the merger of 2 accounts is still having a procedure where EPFO does not entertain application unless forwarded by employer? Primarily there seems to be no valid reason for such procedure.

Unless accounts are merged, neither complete settlement of account is possible nor proper benefit of EPS (Employee Pension Scheme) can be availed.

In view of above, it is suggested that EPFO may be advised to look-into this aspect and provide an option to forward the application directly by employee through online means. This may contribute in improving ease of living parameters.

Please acknowledge.
