Who is BLO and what are his duties and responsibilities?
A BLO is the custodian of electoral roll of the polling stations assigned to him/her and act as an instrument for collecting actual field information in respect of that polling station. BLO are required to assist E.R.O’s in improving the quality and accuracy of electoral roll, make a thorough study of electoral roll section wise, make frequent field visits to ensure a healthy and error free electoral roll. Delhi has 11594 polling stations and many BLO’s are looking after more than one polling station. It has now been decided that there must one BLO exclusively for each polling station. The BLO will function during off duty hours/days and will be in addition to the regular duties of their department.
Who is eligible to apply as BLO?
1. He/She shall be local resident and a voter of the particular booth to which he/she intend to serve as BLO.
2. He/she must be regular employee of Govt. department/Govt. undertaking/local bodies.
3. He/She a retired Govt. servent
Who is not eligible to apply as BLO?
1. official working in CBI, IB, RAW (and other intelligence agencies.)
2. personnel working in essential services like Hospitals, Airports, Fire services etc.
3. Personnel already working as BLO in Assembly Constituency of Delhi.
Remuneration
BLO’s will get honorarium of Rs. 3000/- per annum, for those BLO’s who have only one polling stations. In case any BLO have more than one polling station additional honorarium of Rs.750/-per polling station per annum over and above Rs.3000/-per annum shall be given.
