If FIR not registered, send complaint online: Gupta

TNN Jul 9, 2011, 08.57pm IST

NEW DELHI: The police commissioner said cops need some cooperation from civil society for better policing. "I can give you examples from Germany and UK where citizens take simple precautions while going out late at night. My daughter's purse was snatched a couple of times in London and now she usually avoids travelling alone at night after being advised not to do so,'' he said.

Speaking about corruption in the force, he said it was a social malaise. "I won't say there is no corruption in the department. What is prevalent in society is prevalent here too,'' he said. He said police officers also make a lot of sacrifices in their line of duty and deserve people's respect.

The commissioner stuck to his claim, made recently during the half-yearly review of Delhi Police, that crime rates have gone down during his tenure. Asked whether the reason for this was that few FIRs were registered, he said: "No police can fudge records of heinous crimes.'' Backing his statistics, he said he was ready to call victims of these crimes, like the widow of jeweller Gaurav Gambhir, in his support. "We have started interaction with the victims at all levels. I myself monitor all major cases,'' he said.

Please add-

1.       Theft in Shivalik Society, Plot No. 32 (?), Sector 6, Dwarka  in mid-June.  Locks of two flats were broken there.  From one flat, reportedly, jewellary and about Rs. 30,000 were stolen. Total estimated loss – about one lakh. The crimes does not find any mentioned in the list of INCIDENCES OF THEFT FROM FLATS IN DWARKA

2.     Rs. 20,000/- were robbed/ cheated from me by a fake agent for providing maids which I gave to him as Commission.  The maid ran on the next day.  On inquiry, the address of the agent was found fake.  Two mobile numbers given by him are now not working. Given all the documents, along with photo of maid and other details to Dwarka South Police Station while reporting the matter to the PS on 8th May, 11 at 11.30 pm. (day of incidence) Instead of registering FIR, complaint (No. 49A) was taken.  No FIR so far even after request for this by mail on 3.7.2011 to Shri B.K. Gupta, Police Commissioner.  The mail was forwarded to Joint Commissioner of Police, Southern Range on 6.7.2011. Earlier met  Dy. CP, Mr. Anil K. Ojha on 18.5 and ACP on 28.5.2011 in the case.

Now, filed RTI on 4.7.11 to know the basis for not registering FIR and related issues.

Other on-line members may also inform such cases.
