This is the second time that Dastkar is exhibiting at Dwarka. Dastkar has been a pioneer in bringing the artisan’s work to peoples Homes selling their authentic craft, thus changing the way we see craft. This year The Dastkar Basant Bazaar will showcase around 85 crafts and crafts-groups from 18 states of India, exhibiting and selling indigenous Arts, authentic to their respective regions.
Laila Tyabji, Chairperson of Dastkar said “Apart from giving craftspeople a platform for marketing their craft products through these bazaars we also provide them with the design assistance to help them to compete in urban markets.
Dastkar also supports NGO’s working for social causes .Dastkar bazaar has a quality, effort, hard work and emotions attached to the products which craftspeople showcase in the bazaar.
“We have above 85 crafts groups, belonging to 18 states of India, showcasing and selling, crafts made with intricate local knowledge interspersed with colours distinctive to each region” further continued Ms Tyabji.
This year Dastkar Basant Bazaar 2012 will showcase skills:-
From North India there will be – Ari Embroidery and Walnut wood carving from Kashmir. Sheep wool weaving & handmade soaps from Uttrakhand. Beaded Jewellery, Wood Carving, Wood Engraving, Khurja Pottery, Marble Inlays, Banarasi weaving,, Durry weaving, Patti Ka Kaam, Sanjhi craft, Sarkanda, from Uttar Pradesh.Terracotta pottery and puppetry from Delhi.
East India products include Madhubani painting, Tussar Weaving, paper Machie from Bihar. Dhokra Jewellery & Decoratives, Ikat weaving, Applique Work, Stone carving, Coir Products, Sabai Grass, Terracotta Pottery, Pattachitra & Palmleaf Painting from Orissa.Kantha Embroidery, Mat Weaving, Beaded & Dhokra jewellery, from West Bengal.
North East of India will be represented by Bodo weaving, Cane & Bamboo and, Eri weaving from Assam.
Leading from the front West Indian Arts & Crafts will include Kota weaving, Durries, Leather juttis & bags camel products, Block Prints ,Patch Work, Bandhani, Threaded & Beaded Jewellery, lehriya work, Mehandi, Phad painting, Embroidery, Weaving ,Miniature painting, Blue Pottery from Rajasthan. Bead Work, Bandhani & Ajrakh block print, Ari &Suf Embroidery, Batik, Woolen shawls and stoles from Gujarat.
Towards South of India there will be Perfumed Candles from Tamil Nadu. Handloom Weaving, Durrie Weaving from Andhra Pradesh. Coconut Shell Products, Lacquer Toys, Metal & silver jewellery, Lambani Embroidery from Karnataka.
Central India will also represent Chanderi Weaving, Gond Painting and Maheshwari from Madhya Pradesh as well as Tussar Weaving, Gourd Products from Chattisgarh
