Sir,

Concerned Ministry: Centre for Scientific & Industrial Research.

Reg: Use of roadside dust for productive purposes.

Pollution in our country has touched astronomical heights and is impacting all of us in an extremely adverse manner. One of the connected aspects is a shortage of landfill sites. One specific item which is dumped in landfill sites is dust collected from the roadside. Due to non-utilization of this dust for road/building construction, the same gets its way to landfill. Even after being filled at the landfill, it can still cause pollution by flowing along with the wind. As this dust is not biodegradable it consumes space on a permanent basis.

A substantial quantity of such dust is collected from roadside daily in cities. Besides occupying space the accumulated dust dumped in the landfill can be a reason for land to become unusable for any other purpose by making it barren.

This dust is also a type of natural resource that we are not able to put to any usage right now. If waste plastic can find its way in road construction this dust must have some productive use in itself or it can at least provide some alternative to any other existing resource. Since this closely resembles fine sand used in construction, it must have some utility where it can be mixed with coarse sand or something else.

Despite growing technical advancement in every field, it is felt that this research area has escaped the attention of capable scientist of our country, hence it is requested that research may be initiated to provide some alternate usage of this dust, which may possibly be in the area of building construction, road construction or some other kind of industrial usage. Any such commercial model shall be highly favorable to the environmental protection as besides saving space it may help reduce consumption pressure on alternate natural resources.

Please acknowledge.
