Here is our input for your study:

1. We bought RO system in 2006 and going smoothly. We paid Rs. 14,000
for this wall mounted plant.

2. We have an AMC which costs Rs. 1,800. It was Rs. 800 in the
begining but now it went up to Rs. 1,800.

3. We also bought a TDS probe which costed Rs. 1,500.

4. Ours is just two member family and take good care of the system. We
do spend on catridges once a year costing Rs. 800.

5. TDS varies depending on the quality of water - but usually we
observed it is in the range of 500 - 600. The output of water has a
TDS of 100 - 110.

While I found

I got the Reviva RO from Eurokaforbes in 2003 for around 14000
Then TDS was around 1200.. today it vary from 2000 to 4000 (Don't be amazed). Some TDS machines give high, in one case I have seen 7000).
The AMC is around 4050 (it was 3800) for Euroka forbes charged in our society by the company directly.
Monthly spend over Rs 2500 portable drinking water from CATCH brand.
The Society bill comes around Rs. 43000 and goes up according to demand plus electrcity, motor etc..

All together we all spend a HUGE Amount on Safe Drinking Water sourced and maintained Privately and NOT GOVT who is duty bound to provide us.

So get.. all together..

In our appt, TDS is more than 4000. There is no centralized RO system and residents have got installed various systems. On an average, cost of RO = Rs. 14000, avg monthly bill on bottled water = Rs. 1500, AMC of RO = Rs. 1600,
Society tanker bill = Rs. 80,000 per month.
So, in all, we spend a huge amount on water which should have been provided by MCD. Moreover, we are paying huge water bills!!

I dont know what the administration wants from us?

Each on of you  Raj bhai , Sethi Saab , Col Pawar, Rama and many here as CGHS Office bearers
This is not RALLY of political party but a COMMON Man basic demand so bring all our residents to 7th Morning.. Please spread message personally around with all.

Just imagine with TDS level 4000 RO will remove 90% of TDS still the TDS will be around 400 which VERY VERY HIGH

http://www.who.int/water_sanitation_health/dwq/chemicals/tds.pdf

In early studies, inverse relationships were reported between TDS concentrations in drinkingwater
and the incidence of cancer (11), coronary heart disease (12), arteriosclerotic heart 2
disease (13), and cardiovascular disease (14,15). Total mortality rates were reported to be
inversely correlated with TDS levels in drinking-water (15,16).

Have any society recently got full water test of Ground Water as well as DDA Supplied (either through pipe or tanker)  from Shriram Institute ?? if so kindly share the same too

Thanks ... we still need input from other sectors....

a) RO system 13000-15000
b) 3000
c). In the year 2003 when members started moving in our society the TDS of water from the bore well installed was about 6500.
The proposal of installation of RO plant was outright rejected by members who opted for their own domestic RO or other purification systems.
Besides whatever quantity is received from DDA the shortfall is met thru private tankers. Average monthly charges recovered per month working out to Rs.1236 and 1305 respectively during 2010 and 2011. Exorbitant and unacceptable by any standards.
During the period January to July 2012 the monthly recoveries have been Rs.1229, 1442, 1635,1617,2023,1987 and 2286 respectively

It may be interesting for friends to know that Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has been past several years engaged in research for developing suitable and cheaper technologies for water purification and has been transferring technologies and know-how. I recollect BARC has also developed technologies useful for rural areas.I also recollect that BARC had developed and implemented technology for desalination of sea water which has a TDS of approximately 35000mg/L and the operational cost of making the water suitable for drinking, working out to about one paisa or two paise per litre.Various processes BARC had been working upon, if I recollect, has been sea water and brackish water desalination, water purification and reuse of water.I feel that contacting BARC for a project suitable for housing societies or communities may be useful.
The availability of raw water for Dwarka presently is only ground water supplied by private tankers, the TDS of which is definitely beyond acceptable limit of upto 500 mg/L as per WHO recommendations.

RO cost may be fluctuating but not less than 10k. The isuue is use of electricity for running RO. Waste water from RO. Some may be using it for watering plants but how many.
As regards BARC technology & desalination of sea & brackish water. We hv DRDO but still not opting for indigenously developed tech.
Regarding potable water for Dwarka, excess water of NDMC area be diverted to Dwarka till Munak Canal problem is resolved by Govt. Public service cannot  be put on stake.

Dear all,
processing cost of ro water will depend on the tds to a certain
extent.when we went for RO plant for the society in 2002,the TDS has
already gone from 1000 to 3500 and continnued to increase as u go
deeper.Cost at that time was 12 lacs for a5000 litre per hour capacity
and processing cost was .5 paisa per litre.the main problem is
disposal of discard water which can not be used for plants.
The real solution now is canal water for drinking/domestic use and
vigorously effective rain water harvesting. DF can take the lead and
under BHAGIDARI ensure its compliance. It will be a grt service to the
community
