It may be interesting for friends to know that Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has been past several years engaged in research for developing suitable and cheaper technologies for water purification and has been transferring technologies and know-how. I recollect BARC has also developed technologies useful for rural areas.I also recollect that BARC had developed and implemented technology for desalination of sea water which has a
TDS of approximately 35000mg/L and the operational cost of making the water suitable for drinking, working out to about one paisa or two paise per litre.Various processes BARC had been working upon, if I recollect, has been sea water and brackish water desalination, water purification and reuse of water.I feel that contacting BARC for a project suitable for housing societies or communities may be useful.
The availability of raw water for Dwarka presently is only ground water supplied by private tankers, the TDS of which is definitely beyond acceptable limit of upto 500 mg/L as per WHO recommendations.
