               WEEKLY BAZAARS

I am reproducing extracts - on weekly bazaar in Dwarka - of the interview of the ACP, Shri Rajinder Singh published in Dwarka City issue distributed on 28.6.08. The interview was given to Shri M.K. Sinha, Mg. Editor of the paper.

Question

- The weekly markets in Dwarka have been an issue of hot debate amongst the residents. In absence of any authorized vegetable market, the residents are dependent totally on these markets. What are your plans on this issues?

Answer

- We r not against d vegetable market in any way. It is d general belief that d police r harassing the people by removing d market i want to make this clear that our intentions r not 2 harass d people but 2 help them by instilling a feeling of security. It is d RWA members who approach (sic) us 2 close d vegetable market. Till now RWA members has approached me for removing the market and rehdis. I can take any step of reviving the markets only if i get a written request of RWA's and associations.

Note -

1. In the context of the statement of Mr. Sinha that "in absence of any authorized vegetable market", I state that according to an information shared on this forum, probabily taken from the authorities by filing RTI, authorities have authorised four weekly bazaars in different sectors across Dwarka.

2.   If the members wants these bazaars, they should write to the police, as stated above.

Has anybody ever seen the applications by RWAs to close these markets? it is the residents of dwarka only who are shopping in these markets and not anyone from outside. Besides these markets are not taking place by obstructing any Society or Pocket at least not the Thursday and Tuesday market near Shiksha Bharti school sec.7.
On casually talking to vendors, we get the feeling that it is the Police only who is troubling them to increase their weekly hafta or it is the Big Dept stores who have instigated the police /some RWAs to force the closure of the markets so that people buy from the stores.
There are also some rumors of "security reasons" being another excuse.

For security reason, it will be far far safer to either tighten the security of sec.6 /10 markets or if the Police thinks better to close it; as that market is much more potential ground for troublemakers being many times more crowded than a vegetable market and also it is open on 6 days a week compared to once a week veg market.
