Dear Dwarkites (particularly bird lovers!),

We wish to share with Dwarkites about a small initiative on house
sparrow that is going to be held on Sunday, May 12th at our Society.
Please have a look at the attachement for details of the program. This
is a voluntary initiative primarily aimed at children of our housing
society to bring awareness and sensitise them
towards the State bird of Delhi - house sparrow. We are doing our best
to make the event useful and productive with full cooperation from the
Management Committee and residents. We are making this event fully a
field-based event without any usual paraphernalia.

We are lucky to have a few sparrows on our compound. Some of them have
been visiting our balcony (2nd floor) regularly. I am glad to share
with Dwarkites that I attended the World Sparrow Day (March 20th)
celebrations at the Delhi's CM's residence in which about 200 children
participated from Delhi. I read one song written by me in Hindi on
house sparrow during the event - see attached picture. Residents from
our society will be singing two songs during the event on Sunday.

Interested people are welcome to attend this event.

Warm regards,

Dr. T. Sampath Kumar

Sir,
Really a great initiative. There is no doubt that Dwarka CGHS societies have added green in the area which has ultimately resulted in  reviving the number of various birds besides sparrow.
In my society itself I found small birds during this time they nest in the trees and make very beautiful and sharp sound. Their color is light green and can't be differentiated when sitting in a tree.

Dear Mr. Sampat

In sector -11 near the mosque we have put a earthen water pot,
every day we change the water and spread Milt ( Bajara) seeds
there are good numbers of House sparrows and other small birds.
I just want share with all readers to please feed them only the
Milt (Bajara) or other small seeds but never use Maize or Corn
as these big seeds attracts Pigeons and other big birds who scare
them away , always spread the seeds near the thick bushes or
use some pot hanging in balcony .

Different sizes of nests are available in the market and on net also. But I have made a small nest from a cardbox, design taken from the net and fixed it where the sparrows use to visit my flat. They watched it for some days and now they have a happy living in their nest.

Many thanks Anil-ji. In fact we are taking children to that site only
which we are calling as "Sparrow Chowk". Yes, it seems some people are
feeding maize - this morning I noticed.

I feel instead of putting nests for these birds we should
make available the material like coconut jute , small thin
wooden sticks , safe hanging small box  etc. and let the
birds make their nest , As a bird lover I have noticed that
while making a nest these birds enjoy more .
