In the current NPS account management process, actions such as updating bank account details, initiating partial withdrawals, and similar requests require the employee to submit an online application through the web portal, which is then subject to online approval by the employer’s nodal officer.

The question that arises is: What value does this additional step provide? If an employee wishes to update bank details or make a withdrawal within the limits and conditions prescribed under the rules, what substantive check is the nodal officer expected to perform? This step appears to add no value while increasing processing time.

It is, therefore, suggested that the necessity of this approval step be re-evaluated. Eliminating nonessential procedures will help streamline the system and enhance the overall ease-of-living quotient for employees and also save administrative time.
