Greetings all!

We all are well aware of the condition of footpaths and other pedestrians safety in Dwarka. Half of the manhole covers are lying open. Others are being used as parking spaces. Yet others have been encroached upon. As per data of Delhi Traffic Police, almost every second person killed in road accidents was a pedestrian.
We do not want people to die in Dwarka. We want to work for their safety well in advance. This will encourage people to walk more rather than taking motor vehicles even for short distances.

What co-operation we need from you?
We will send you Post Cards and we want you to write a message for the Chief Engineer (Dwarka) DDA and then we will send them to the DDA Office in Manglapuri. Look around yourself and see if the footpaths are worth walking? If not, be ready with a message for the CE, DDA. It will take a few mins of your time to ensure complete pedestrian safety in our sub-city.

Looking forward to your support. Please feel free to give more suggestions for this campaign. To get Post Cards, pls reply with Society Name and contact Number.

It is highly thoughtful of u to hv considered this issue. This cud be taken up sector wise.In most societies the entrance has broken the padestrians way because no body wants to do any modification on their own land but want every thing to be done on public land. DDA can send notices to all the societies to restore the pedestrians way in front of the societies so that people do not fall because of sudden change in level/ obstruction.

Foot paths are found non walkable at places being occupied by two wheelers parked there, particularly in front of schools. May, therefore, involve traffic police also.

It is observed that the traffic movement in front of Shiksha Bharti School Dwarka sector 7 & Dwarka Sector 9 (main Road) just after Police check post is too much curved and a school (Shiksha Bhart School) is alos present, as a result the vehicles coming from Dwarka sector 10 crossing are in high speed and due to the steep bend on the main road causes the vehicles skiting and a safety concern for children crossing the road to go to school. (MAP ATTACHED).

Though there is a speed breaker on other side of the road(in front of Munirka Apartment Sector 9), but no speed breaker is present on the opposite side in front of Shiksha Bharti School, Dwarka Sec 7 & Dwarka Sector 9 (DDA Flats).

Can we have a speed breaker for safety of school children and residents on the other side of road too?

Thanks & regards,

S. Adhikari

It is good initiative of Shobit. He raised this issue earlier too but, perhaps did not get expected response. I think it will be easier and better to load concerned authorities with emails bkaz  we have no proof of postcards, if sent to waste paper basket and it is little tedious too--for example there is no post box in our nearby area. I REQUEST SHOBHIT TO PROVIDE email ADDRESSES OF CONCERNED AUTHORITIES (in addition to post cards, if any).

Presidium School in Sector-22 has occupied about one third of main road with ramps at both of its entry gates, what to talk about footpath. Moreover, main gate ramp is not visible while driving from sector 21 side, being on a road curve. SDKS have already taken up the matter with concerned authorities.

In some areas the footpaths are too high to climb and at some places residential societies have obstructed the footpaths by growing hedges and plants.

May our joint efforts yield some good results in  the interest of pedestrians, particularly senior citizens,  ladies and kids.

Prem ji!

Thanks... The e-mail ids are not working. You don't have to worry about posting and all. We will take care of it all. Just be willing to get together and write messages on postcards we get to you on decided dates and times.

Please show that much co-operation and we will manage it. All postcards will be numbered and personally received in the concerned offices.

I noticed that most of the e-mail ids having prefix nic.in do not work. For better e-governance, we should take up this matter with the Govt. Department dealing with this. This seems to be deliberate so that complaints and suggestions etc. can be avoided.

Good initiative but aim for a permanent solution. What about gen-sets
occupying public space particularly in the market areas? You will not
miss them in markets. I also observe people (probably shop keepers) in
the market area park their cars on foot paths on a regular (or
permanent) basis. They hardly give any passage to walk through. We
need to rope market associations into this activity.

Fabulous idea Shobhit Ji

One suggestion is why not send by fax (25035415) and email at ce...@dda.org.in providing pics and write ups.

Sir,

The entire footpath from Brahma Apartments to Ramphal chowk on both sides is
occupies by traders thus forcing people to walk on road in a heavy and eratic
traffic endangering their lives. Shops are scooter repairs, eateries, building
material stores etc.

There is no system monitoring as to whon to report this encroachment on road by
these shops.

Sampath ji!

We will of course focus on every aspect. Looking forward to your co-operation.

Arun ji!

Does that mail ID work? I don't think so as I always get a failure mail. Everybody can not send a fax but we can provide post cards.

Footpath is pedestrians right. Any encroachment on footpath can be reported to the local police. Whether they work or not depends upon whose DANDA is stronger.  As Rules are seldom followed and obeyed. Shopkeepers think footpath is the bonus land for their business.

Tom, we are writing to the Chief Engineer to call a joint meeting of all concerned executive engineers of DDA to work out a plan to revive the pedestrian facilities. If this is not done, we will start off the post card campaign to beg for safe pedestrian facilities and send roses to the CE everyday.

Regards!

Its been a month since we wrote to the Chief Engineer regarding this issue but to no use.

Can we have inputs as to what will be the best strategy. I want DDA CE to realize that Dwarka Residents will not tolerate any this that attitude when it comes to safety.

Inputs pls. We want to start the campaign asap.

Difficult to say and suggest how DDA can be tamed.
