मानक हिंदू प्रथाओं के अनुसार, प्रयुक्त पूजा सामग्री और खंडित/पुरानी मूर्तियों का निपटान बहते पानी में प्रवाहित करके किया जाता है। लेकिन पर्यावरण संबंधी चिंताओं के कारण एनजीटी द्वारा ऐसी गतिविधियों पर प्रतिबंध के कारण, इन्हें ज़मीन में गाड़ने या पुनर्चक्रण जैसे वैकल्पिक तरीके प्रचलन में हैं। हालाँकि, नागरिक निकायों द्वारा ऐसी सुविधाओं का व्यवस्थित तरीके से विकास नहीं किया गया है। अब जनसंख्या वृद्धि के कारण ऐसी सामग्री की मात्रा दिन-प्रतिदिन बढ़ती जा रही है और अवांछित स्थानों पर पहुँच रही है। खबरों के अनुसार, एमसीडी ने कुछ मंदिरों के सहयोग से दक्षिण दिल्ली में प्रयुक्त सामग्री के पुनर्चक्रण के लिए ऐसे 5 संग्रह केंद्र स्थापित किए हैं। इस तरह की संगठित गतिविधि सराहनीय है, हालाँकि, इनका आकार काफी छोटा है और माँग को पूरा करने के लिए पूरी तरह से अपर्याप्त है। 2 करोड़ से अधिक की आबादी वाले ये 5 केंद्र केवल प्रतीकात्मक होंगे। प्रत्येक जिले में कम से कम 7-8 ऐसे केंद्र होने चाहिए, अन्यथा इनका कोई वास्तविक प्रभाव नहीं होगा। अनुरोध है कि एमसीडी को द्वारका में ऐसा एक केंद्र खोलने का निर्देश दिया जाए।

As per standard Hindu practices, the disposal of used Pooja samgari and broken/old idols is done by flowing them in running water. But due to a ban on such activities by NGT for environmental concerns, the alternative methods of burying these in land or recycling is in vogue. However, such facilities have not been developed by civic agencies in an organized way. Now due to an increase in population the quantum of such material is growing day-by-day finding its way at undesired places. As per news MCD in collaboration with a few temples had established 5 such collection centres in South-Delhi to recycle the used material. Such an organized activity is appreciated, however, the scale is quite low and is grossly insufficient to meet the demand. These 5 centres with a population of more than 2 crores will only be symbolic. Every district must have at least 7-8 such centres, otherwise, it will be too minuscule to have any real impact.
