Dear Sir,
Though I am not a student of law, I think this judgment is downright stupid.
No crime was committed yet the judge has punished him on the basis of 'intentions'.
On the other hand the IAS couple of MP comtinue in service though several crores were found in their residence
The problem is this; we do not have proper mechanisms that measure the legality and illegality of actions. Judgments are given on the basis of personal likes and dislikes.
A High Court judge is let off and allowed to resign so that he doesn't have to face the heat of Parliament censure.
Sorry this is witch hunt in the case of Bangaru.
And yes, I am a Bjp supporter.

The decision by court is good. Do we know if the real deal was there he would have backed off.. Perhaps not. So its good that action is taken even when intentions are wrong. But I still agree with your comments that more stringent punishment shud be given to people who are found after actual corruption happened.. We won't see anyone punished for Tatra, 2G, Adarsh, JMM bribery, Banglore land, Marashtra Land Scam etc just before they were not one lac but most were in 1 lac crore.
Perhaps only fault of Laxman is he was not good in handling big deals thats why a person of such strature was taking 1Lac cash.. :).. Still this punishment is not hard iff it has caused death of single soilder for such shady deals.. But wish the CBI has same standards for everybody... For lots of cases of Mayawari, Mulayam CBI is unable to find any disproportionate assets. for 2G people get bail, for common wealth same story, for Bofors same story, for Adarsh same story.. Wish standards were same for everybody.. For 1 Lac 4 years, what should have been for 100 lacs and 1000000000 lacs??

By accepting bribe to swing a defence deal, albeit fake, former BJP president Bangaru Laxman had agreed to compromise the lives of the soldiers of the nation, a Delhi court on Saturday observed.
"The convict (Laxman) had kept his individual interests over and above the national interest and has even agreed to compromise with the security and safety of the nation. He had agreed to help a company I.E. M/s Westend International, coming to him for getting a supply order of defence related equipments to Indian Army.
"The result of the path chosen by him, should be such, so as to deter others not the tread the same," the judge said.
Inspired by the judgments of the Supreme court, the judge said, corruption in itself is bad and it is like "cancer" for the society.

Good debate.
My only apprehension is that in the higher court whether this will stand it or not because intention of the sting operation was wrong and look at the irony that nobody is talking about that.This has become your corruption vs my corruption.
Why cant these legislature pass a legislation that even if the intention of the person paying or likely to pay bribe will be treated as crime in the eyes of law?Our legal expert may throw some light on it but as per my understanding paying bribe or taking bribe both are crime and considering this who will take chance to prove that he has paid the bribe.
