Each year, Canada World Youth (CWY) hires project supervisors to manage its youth exchange in the field.
About CWY
Canada World Youth offers international volunteer and educational youth exchanges to young people aged 17 to 29. Since 1971, the year in which CWY was founded, more than 33,000 people from Canada and around the world have participated in our programs in 67 countries.
Each year, approximately 1,000 young volunteers participate in CWY programs in Canada and in different countries of Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
Youth Leaders in Action (YLA) Program
In the YLA program, groups of young volunteers from different cultures leave their homes to live in a host family and do volunteer work in a Canadian community and in a community in one of our partner countries. Each volunteer is matched with a counterpart from the partner country throughout the entire youth exchange.
Young volunteers have an opportunity to participate in a meaningful international volunteer experience, learn about other cultures, acquire useful skills for the future, gain a better understanding of global issues, and contribute to the strengthening of health or environmental projects in their host communities.
Sources: a new public engagement initiative focused on water issues for 3 Canadian and 3 Honduran youth
This new initiative was co designed by ASONOG and CWY. We believe that youth are key players in developing innovative strategies to better protect and manage earth’s precious water resources. The Sources Youth Water Leadership Project will engage and empower young leader to take action in promoting water sustainability.
First phase in Canada: only the Canadian PS is present (JUNE 21ST- July 13th)
The project will start with 3 weeks of training in Canada. The 6 youth will acquire the skills needed to fully benefit from a non-formal, inter-cultural volunteer experience. During this time, they will embark on a tour of Canadian communities to study existing grassroots initiatives that address water issues.
Second phase in Honduras: only the Honduran PS is present
The next phase will involve a study-tour of community-led initiatives in Western Honduras, hosted by ASONOG. The young leaders will continue their training while having the opportunity to visit existing water projects. The goal of the second phase will also be to develop public engagement materials about water issues. The team of 6 youths will be asked to trial test the public engagement material with a community group in Honduras as well as with another YLA team.
Public engagement phase of 6 weeks in Canada and Honduras
Having acquired the knowledge and trial tested the public engagement tools, the Honduran Youth Water Leaders will deliver training sessions to six stakeholder groups comprised of youth, community, and grass-roots leaders throughout the ASONOG network. Meanwhile, the Canadian Youth Water Leaders will deliver training sessions to 8 groups of volunteers involved in the Youth Leaders in Action program during fall of 2011.
Sources is designed for YLA alumni or any other youth wanting to develop skills while encouraging and training other youth to get involved with water issues that impact our planet.
