As most of you probably know by now, the Saturday lineup at our festival this year will be highlighted by a 90-minute evening set by Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives. But did you know that this will mark a return to our stage by Marty after an absence of 37 years?
That's right, Marty appeared at our very first festival in 1972 at the age of 13 as a singer and guitarist in Lester Flatt's band, the Nashville Grass. That first festival (then known as the Delaware Bluegrass Festival) was held at the KOA Campground in Glasgow, Delaware. The following year it was moved across the road to the old Gloryland Park country music park (both of these venues no longer exist) where we stayed until moving to the Salem County Fair Grounds in 1990 and changing the name to Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival. Since that early appearance with us, of course, Marty has gone on to fame and fortune in Nashville, but will return to his "bluegrass roots" with us on Saturday, September 5. In various electronic and print interviews he has often spoken fondly of "that festival in Delaware" as one of his favorite and most lasting memories of his early career. Hope you'll be there to help welcome Marty "back home"!
If you haven't ordered your advance tickets yet, there's still plenty of time. Our direct mail system (with no ticket surcharges) will accept orders paid by check/money order through Friday, August 14, while the TicketWeb online system will be available until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, September 1 (credit cards can be used, but TicketWeb does assess a surcharge).
