One of the things we feel distinguishes our Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival from other festivals (large and small) is that each year we try to bring in top-level bands from west of the Mississippi that East Coast bluegrass audiences rarely get to see on tour - especially the great bands from the vibrant California bluegrass scene that over the decades has produced great acts like the Vern Williams Band. A few of the "Left Coast" artists and bands we've been pleased to present include Laurie Lewis, Chris Hillman & Herb Pedersen, the Laurel Canyon Ramblers, Lost Highway, California (an incarnation of Berline, Crary & Hickman), the Good Ol' Persons, the Bluegrass Intentions, John Reischmann & the Jaybirds and - of course - Chris Stuart & Backcountry.

Since first appearing at DVBGF in 1994 with his former, New York State-based band Cornerstone, Chris has become a crowd favorite at Salem County with a sound that delights enthusiasts of contemporary and traditional bluegrass alike. And, over the last two decades he has become one of the premier songwriters in bluegrass, penning "Bluegrass Unlimited" chart toppers for artists that include Claire Lynch, Dale Ann Bradley, Suzanne Thomas - and Danny Paisley, whose version of Chris's "Don't Throw Mama's Flowers Away" became an IBMA Award winner. Even Larry Cordle, the "bluegrass songwriter's songwriter" has recorded Chris's material! After moving to San Diego in the late 1990s, Chris found himself re-energized by his new Southern California surroundings and formed Backcountry in the early 2000s, anchored by himself and his longtime musical partners Janet Beazley (banjo) and Eric Uglum (guitar and mandolin).

And best of all, Chris and the band will be with us *two* days this year, on Saturday and Sunday. We hope you're planning to be there to help us welcome back an old friend.
