We're getting closer and closer to the time when we will be able to announce the full lineup for our 39th Annual Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival (Sept. 3-5, 2010), but are pleased to "preview" to our mailing list the news that we will be bringing renowned country artist Kathy Mattea to our stage on Saturday, September 4, 2010.
A native of Cross Lane, West Virginia, Kathy's early musical career included singing in a bluegrass band called Pennsboro during her college years before moving to Nashville to establish a career that would include several Top Ten country hits ("Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses", Grammy-winning "Where've You Been", "Walk The Way The Wind Blows" and more) as well as a Grammy for her gospel-themed Christmas album "Good News" in 1993.
Inspired by the songs of the coal mining region she grew up in, Kathy released her landmark album "Coal" in 2008, and since then has been touring with an all-acoustic band in support of the album. Her band includes acoustic guitar wizard Bill Cooley, Irish-born Eamonn O'Rourke on fiddle and mandolin, and bassist David Spicher (son of legendary fiddler Buddy Spicher), and their shows highlight not only songs from "Coal" ("The L&N Don't Stop Here Anymore", "Black Lung"), but acoustic renditions of many of Kathy's chart-topping hits as well.
We hope you'll make plans to be on hand when Kathy takes the stage at our 39th festival, along with our previously announced acts:
Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver
Riders In The Sky
Cherryholmes
Seldom Scene
Chris Jones & The Night Drivers
Kenny & Amanda Smith Band
Thanks, and Happy Holidays from
