Hi guys,

I was wondering if events recording captured using DV can be opened by jaer 1.8. I realized that DV saves the files using aedat4 extension, but jaer doesn't admit this file extension. I have seen that DV can convert files to aedat4, but not in the other direction (i.e. aedat4 to aedat)

I have tried open aedat4 using jaer 1.8, but it complains about file extension and I would like to know if there exist a conversion tool for that purpose.

Thanks for your time,
Antonio

Hello, no this is not currently possible.
DV uses the AEDAT4 format only, and can as you saw, convert old
AEDAT2/3 files to 4.
jAER only supports AEDAT 2/3.
We do not recommend jAER for production use, it also doesn't support
our newest devices such as the DVXplorers.

Hi Luca,

I use DV software in an embedded robot system where I collect the visual information. My intention to use jaer is because there is a filter which generates an avi file with histograms that have been generated integrating events. Then, there is another script which gets the avi frames and saves them. I use that files to create a database for deep learning training.

I don't know if there is something similar in DV software. I have a module that integrates events to create an histogram that is converted to frame, but if I try to save each generated frame... it is very slow and I lost information.

Thank you for your quick response.

There's the dv_image_output module which will save each frame as a PNG,
or the dv_video_output which can save videos in the MKV format using
different video compression algorithms (H264, HVEC, lossless FFV1).

There are some tools out there for reading aedat4 into python, for
example. From there there are scripts that can write at least some part
of AEDAT-2 out. But the best links for these I don't have handy.  It
would be good to have the answer here.
