Welcome to the Dutch-American Heritage Day edition of our newsletter! We have important information on a proposal by Dutch Minister Donner to abolish dual citizenship. Read all about it.

Wednesday November 16th is Dutch-American Heritage Day. This day celebrates the friendship between the Netherlands and the United States, and commemorates the First Salute, where Dutch authorities welcomed a U.S. ship to the harbor in St. Eustatius with a salute. Several Dutch clubs organize events. In Washington, DC there will be drinks at Mackey's Pub; in Michigan the annual Dutch Heritage Celebration Dinner has invited Russell Shorto to speak. Last week the Dutch Ambassador visited businesses in Georgia.

Last but not least, it is Sinterklaas season, and St. Nick has arrived in the Netherlands. Check out our event listing (see below) to find Sinterklaas celebrations near you.

In this issue:

The end of dual citizenship?

There are important developments in Dutch politics. Minister Donner has presented a proposal that would eliminate dual citizenship for Dutch immigrants living abroad. It seems like a majority in the Dutch House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) does not agree with the proposal, undoubtedly fueled by the highly success online petition that was started by several Dutch-American organizations in New York City, but it remains to be seen what the Minister will do with the feedback of the House. We'll keep you informed through our website in English; our article also lists good resources in Dutch.

New book: Prominent Dutch American Entrepreneurs

Prominent Dutch American Entrepreneurs tells the stories of successful businesses started by Dutch-Americans in the United States. Its author is Professor Emeritus Carl Pegels of the University at Buffalo who taught Business Management there and has written extensively on that subject throughout his career. We spoke with him about his book.
