Welcome to the Dutch-American Heritage Day edition of our newsletter!

Dutch-American Heritage Day

Tuesday November 16th is Dutch-American Heritage Day and many Dutch clubs and organizations are organizing events. Tomorrow is the start of "Seeing Orange", a Dutch design week in San Francisco, and on Thursday the annual 5 Dutch Days will kick off in New York City. These Dutch-American celebrations culminate in two official gala's in New York and Los Angeles. But the events are not limited to big cities -- from Scottsdale, AZ to Lewes, DE there are festivities; our event calendar has the details.

Sinterklaas

A recent report found that in the Netherlands the St. Nicholas celebration is considered the most precious tradition. Dutch-Americans also hold "Sinterklaas" dear, and we know of around 25 celebrations throughout the country. If you're looking for pepernoten or chocolate letters, visit our website for a list of all Dutch restaurants, stores and bakeries in the United States. Oh, and Christmas and Queen's Day are number two and three on that list with traditions.

We love to hear from you! In our September newsletter we wrote about changes in Dutch citizenship law, applicable to people born before 1985 to a Dutch mother and non-Dutch father. A reader sent us this uplifting note: "I want to thank you most sincerely for discussing the new Dutch law that allows children of Dutch mothers and foreign fathers to become Dutch. My daughter qualifies and she is so excited and immediately filed her papers! So both of us are VERY grateful. I would not have known about it if it were not for your newsletter." Thank you for the kind words and good luck.

Ori Deli - Indonesian cuisine and Dutch shopping in San Jose, CA
In a corner of a small shopping center in San Jose, not far from highway 101, you’ll find “Ori Deli, Dutch and Indonesian groceries”. Ori Deli, owned by Robert Tan, is a great place for an Indonesian meal and Dutch shopping.
