We have two speakers planned:

* Jasper Van der Jeugt brings forth his Belgian ideas and experiences on optimizing code in the context of his Google Summer of Code project to convert the 'text' library's underlying representation from UTF-16 to UTF-8.

* Our own Stefan Holdermans explains his work in progress to conveniently represent polymorphic types in dynamic values.

Time: 19:00

As usual, we'll adjourn to utrecht.thebasket.nl afterwards.

NOTE! I will be out of town the first half of August. Would anybody like to plan a meeting for that month? Otherwise, I think we'll skip it.

In the second half of August, the summer school will take place at UU.
So, assuming we'd have a meeting then, there would be a potential for
a significant number of additional participants (and it would give me
the opportunity to participate in a Dutch HUG meeting again after a
long time).

Cheers,
Andres

Hi Andres,
I think that's a great idea! Would you consider making this an optional (but perhaps encouraged) event for the summer school students? Continuing along that line, if we scheduled it towards the end of the month -- say Thursday, 25 August -- do you think one or two of the students might want to give talks on their projects?

Regards,
Sean

Yes, that would be my plan then. I'd advertise it, but say that it's
optional. Probably quite a few, but not all, would go.

I'd rather not plan for something like that. While it is quite
possible, it's hard to say in advance. In the past years, my
impression was that most of the students have not all that much
experience in presenting, so they're already quite nervous presenting
their projects to the other summer school participants. I don't know
if there will be any who would like to present stuff to an even larger
group.

Cheers,
Andres
