Defiance 2050, the re-imagining of the MMO-shooter from Trion Worlds, is available now to play for free - and it supports multiple class types like any MMO or RPG, or shooters like Destiny 2.
Unlike other games though, in Defiance 2050 you can get a new character class and then change between classes whenever you want! But if you haven't paid for them with money they can be tricky to find or unlock. Here's our guide on how to unlock extra character classes in Defiance 2050!
There are five main character classes in Defiance 2050 - Assassin, Assault, Demolitionist, Guardian, and Combat Medic. Obviously whichever one you choose will stick with you for a good proportion of the game, so choose wisely. If you're primarily playing solo, however, we do not advise getting the Combat Medic class.
The Soldier is a crazed, jingoistic patriot from Midwest, USA. Tough and well-armed, he is versatile, capable of both offense and defense, and a great starter class to get familiar with the game.
Well-balanced and possessing both survivability and mobility, the Soldier is considered one of the most flexible classes in Team Fortress 2. Despite his low ground movement speed, he is capable of using rocket jumps to reach his destination quickly. His large health pool is second only to that of the Heavy, and his wide array of armaments and weaponry allows him to bring whatever weapon or equipment is best suited to the situation at hand.
In December 2017, Trion Worlds confirmed a PlayStation 4 version of the game is in development.[17] They also stated they had no plans of making a sequel, instead they will continue to update the game with new content. The new version, named Defiance 2050, came out on July 10, 2018 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.[18] It features the same map, story, missions, NPCs, enemies, sounds, HUD, and other assets from the first game; however, the four classes have been replaced with four new ones, each of which has its own EGO power tree. Many of the weapons were also replaced, weapon skills were consolidated, and some other minor tweaks were made. Cosmetic items that were purchased for the first game are automatically copied to Defiance 2050, but other items are not, including any items that players won from loot crates that were paid for with cash (like the Omec Respark Energizer V). Player characters cannot be transferred from the first game to the second. Like its predecessor, Defiance 2050 was free to play.
