I bought an HP Pavilion dv2000 back when Windows Vista first came out and it was working quite well until the video card drivers started acting up 6 months ago. The laptop has an nVidia GeForce Go7200 and would blue-screen-of-death for the folliwng reason:
The blue-screen-of-death would occur randomly while running Windows Vista. No particular application would cause the issue. Then it started occurring during boot up. The only way I could run my laptop was in safe mode.
I sent in my HP pavilion dv2000 in Hewlett Packard for service and they have informed me that I have a bad motherboard and processor. They offered me the option to replace the each item for a total cost of $733 US dollars. I declined and told them not to the original repairs on the notebook, so I am only out the initial $50 to speak with HP technical support.
I just installed ubuntu 13.04 on my HP pavilion dv2000 and it won't recognize my DVD drive. I know very little about computers. Can anybody walk me through figuring this out?I originally installed Ubuntu 12.04 with the DVD drive. I'm not sure if it recognized the drive after installation but it didn't work after I upgraded to 13.04. I reinstalled 13.04 to see if that would fix it and it didn't. Any other ideas?

CD/DVD drives need to be mounted to work in Ubuntu (same for hard drives and mice). You can do this from Terminal (typing commands) or using Disk Utility (point and click). To get it you can open the Unity Dash (it's the button with the Ubuntu logo on the upper left), and type Disk Utility. In my experience, this was a hardware issue. Physically changing the SATA port on the motherboard to which the DVD drive was connected solved this issue, namely, an Ubuntu release upgrade causing a previously working DVD drive to fail to be recognized in the new installation. I do not presently know if this is due to Ubuntu not recognizing the device properly due to some bug, or if it's a fault in my motherboard.
More detail: I recently upgraded (to 16.04 from 14.04) and faced a similar problem: a previously working DVD drive stopped working. Tengo un notebook HP Pavilion dv2000 Entertainment PC, el mismo viene con windows XP y compatible con Windows Vista, en la actualidad ya son sistemas operativos obsoletos, he instalado windows 7 de 64 bits y lo acepta sin problemas, sin embargo hay varios dispositivos que necesitan drivers que no han sido reconocidos por windows 7 como:

Ol mpassosbel, ento, com o modelo exato realmente facilita o achado dos drivers compatveis com Windows 7 na pgina de download de outros modelos ou at do site das respectivas fabricantes dos componentes. Abaixo vou postar alguns essenciais para Windows 7 32 bits porque o seu notebook suporta apenas 2Gb de RAM no mximo, depois me informa se falta ainda mais algum.
Na verdade dv2000 uma srie. O modelo CTO para quem configura os componentes do notebook j de fbrica, um modelo personalizado que est disponvel para configurao apenas nos EUA. Por favor informe qual modelo exatamente ele , tipo dv2xxx e possivelmente encontrar os drivers adequados.
Ol rob_x1, pelo que vi praticamente todos os driversi ndicados para o mpassosbel so vlidos para o seu caso tambm, com exceo do driver para chipset e placa de vdeo devido ao seu sistema oepracional ser 64 bits. Os links para estes so:
