Hey guys,
Just spoke with BF and they will have a new rulebook out soon. Not sure if that matters because it seems to be somewhat dead.

Do you guys plan on playing in the future?

I have put the old FFG items on 50% off and the BF stuff is 20% at the moment.

I've largely put Dust on hold because I have no idea what's going on with the game.  The transition from FFG to Battlefront hasn't gone as well as it could or should have and I'm more than a little reluctant to invest as a result.  As a for instance I poked around for the Kickstarter and found there's now a third Dust format, Dust Battlefield.  It looks exactly like Warfare except with a different name, a flame/blast template, and maybe metric instead of imperial measurements.  Despite this looking a lot like Warfare 2.0 they're still supporting the existing Warfare line/format.  Why support two copies of the same thing?  This sort of thing is what makes me keep my distance from a game I still enjoy, and I'm sticking to my wait and see approach unless/until some coherent information emerges.  If anyone has a decoder ring that can figure out the direction this franchise is taking I'd be interested in some links.

That said, I'm probably picking up a deck or two of Warfare cards when I come by for Feat of Service.  Doubt I'll get any minis but I'll kick the tires on a new book.

I'd definitely be up for playing more Dust Warfare, but have also made the decision to invest my gaming dollars in games that are more strongly supported by their company and that have a more stable player base at Huzzah.  I would love it if the rules update caused a resurgence for Dust but am definitely in a wait and see mode.

I have to agree with Adam.  Dust Battlefield has left me thoroughly confused as to what direction this game is moving in. Maybe this was something they began developing before they realized they owned the rights to Dust Warfare as well?

I'm also thoroughly unimpressed and uninterested in the Kickstarter, given their approach. They're charging full retail price for these items, and though the infantry has some new models, the vehicle molds already exist! Feels like a big cash grab to me, versus an opportunity to reinvigorate their fan base. I'm fine with paying full retail price when it supports the local game store, but not in cases like this.

There's rumors that the new rulebook has made Dust Warfare into a dice fest, with Lara and Heavy infantry now throwing 55 dice at certain units. I just... don't want to count four dozen dice on an attack.

Waiting and seeing... still.

It looks to me like Battlefront and Dust Studio are making the best of the licenses they have.  They’re trying to serve the Dust Warfare community, best they can, despite being effectively severed from the rights to the game.  It seems they’re going to provide profile cards for Dust Warfare for the entire back-catalog, as well as for future releases.

So Dust Warfare would be kept alive and compatible with the entire range of models.  Therefore, anyone who wants to play Dust Warfare will have everything they need to play the game: models, stats, and, if we’re lucky, maybe pdf-based conversions for the scenarios and campaigns that are released for Tactics/Battlefield.

If that hypothesis holds true, Dust Warfare remains viable.  Granted, it becomes a second-class citizen to the game systems for which Battlefront and Dust Studio have licensing to support – an unfortunate fate, given that Dust Warfare is one of tightest rule systems in the hobby.  But if the profile cards are kept up-to-date, and the game is compatible with everything else that Dust Studio publishes, Dust Warfare lives on.  The community has everything it needs to play the game!

As for the Kickstarter, I support the notion that a Kickstarter is an appropriate financing vehicle to accelerate production schedules.  But that argument weakens when the Kickstarter prices seem to effectively equal retail prices.  A Kickstarter then indeed becomes a pre-order system.  In which case, I’m content to wait for the product to arrive at the FLGS, in order to support the store.

I did a little more digging into the battlefield vs warfare issue.  Apparently the two are reasonably different.  BF says they're getting tactics fully under control before moving on to warfare.  If that's true, which is a sizable if at this point, then I'm not happy but I'm willing to wait and see what they come up with.  That they're doing cards for warfare is a decent sign, as well as the fact that warfare is still up and running.  Seems to me that if they were going to axe warfare in favor of battlefield then they would have already done it.

As for buckets of dice, I think that's a tactics/battlefield thing.  Of course if that's the way paolo/BF want to develop the game then it's likely to come to warfare too.  Personally I like a nice bucket of dice from time to time.  If they rebalance special weapons and jump I'll be happy even if I'm rolling 60 dice instead of 6.

In the meantime, I'm curious about battlefield.  If the rules are in the tactics book, and if said book isn't prohibitively expensive, I may give it a shot.

I've been thinking about looking at Battlefield too, though standard Tactics is right out for me.

Also Chris mentioned to me that your can order the KS stuff directly through him though your need to pay up front if you do.

So, for the most part I am pretty disgusted with the whole status of Warfare. As a customer, I feel the BF really only has given lip service to the whole Warfare component and that is fine, but you know, don't snow me.

However, all that being said, I sort of wanted to try out Battlefield Tactics and see if it does anything for me.

Is anyone interested in trying the game out for a play or two? Its not like we don't have the armies??

Mike and I were talking about this today.  The rules are online and I'd started cobbling together the new tactics cards out of the various previews, but when they sent out whole packs as part of the KS it put the idea within east reach.  We'll give it a shot in the next week or two.
