All,

Well, this is a bit of a bittersweet message. After careful consideration, DAPP 1.0 is officially dissolving.

Here's the deal:

When DAPP got started, the mission was clear: get the Piney Wood Park Pickleball Courts rebuilt. Mission accomplished! 🏆 But here's the thing - when it came time to form a board for 2025, crickets. From the entire Durham area, only one volunteer stepped up.

We took that as a pretty clear signal. The community seems content, the courts are amazing, and folks are happily playing pickleball. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is recognize when your work is done.

Now, about the existing money. We have approximately $11,000 sitting in the DAPP account from two key sources:

  1. Proceeds from the 2024 Bull City Open
  2. The GoFundMe campaign we ran to help the Durham City Council complete the Piney Wood renovation (remember when we needed that extra $180,000 because the big ginormous construction trucks were breaking through the old court surface?)

We're very definitely not keeping this money! Instead, we'll be donating the entire amount to the Durham Parks Foundation, with one condition: it must be spent on pickleball. Because, well, pickleball.

It's been an incredible journey. We've seen Piney Wood transform, watched our community grow, and had a ton of fun along the way. A huge thank you to everyone who supported DAPP 1.0 and helped make these courts a reality.

We look forward to seeing you on the courts!

Best,
SandI Metz...
and your DAPP 1.0 Team
