If you do nothing else, please follow the instructions therein and submit written comments to the Durham City Council expressing your support for year-round bathrooms at Piney!
1) How You Can Support Year Round Bathrooms at Piney
Item 20 on the Agenda for Monday night's Durham City Council meeting includes the FY2025-2030 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which in turn contains funding to install year round bathrooms at Piney Wood Park.
Please know that being in the CIP is no guarantee that bathrooms will get funded! We can increase our chances by
a) showing up at the Council Meeting on Monday night, and/or
b) submitting written comments asking the council to support them.
If you're interested in attending on Monday, reply to this email and we'll coordinate a group.
Here's how I filled it out:
Agenda Item Number and Title if Applicable: 20
Comment Type: General Business Agenda-Public
Meeting Date: March 18, 2024
Comment: (Put your own spin on the following)
Dear City Council Members,
I'm writing to ask you to support the installation of year-round bathrooms at Piney Wood Park, as included in agenda item 20, the FY2025-2030 Capital Improvement Plan.
The new pickleball courts have been enormously successful, and are drawing hundreds of folks each day. Players enjoy exercise and build community during every month of the year. It's important for both safety and sanitation to have bathroom facilities available year round.
Thanks for your consideration, and for the beautiful new pickleball courts at Piney!

Yup. That's all there is to it. Go
fill out the form or you're gonna be stuck in one of those port-a-jon's all next winter. Don't say I didn't warn you!
2) Accounting for the Bull City OpenThe net from the tourney was $10,711.15 (gory details in this
spreadsheet).
Notice that we had $2,000 of direct donations from sponsors. We are very grateful to
for their support.
We're especially grateful that Luke of
Chiropractic Partners brought Wint-O-Green lifesavers to share (my favorite), the Lili of
Edward Jones has more money sense than all of us put together, and that Jeff from
North Carolina Center for Physical Therapy owns several really, really,
really big tarps. Gosh, it was muddy on tournament weekend!
We're splitting the net with the Durham Parks Foundation (who did an enormous amount of work to help make the tournament happen.) DAPP will thus end up with $5,355.58.
In the near future I'll create a survey asking for guidance about how to spend this money, and supplying some options. Stand by for updates!
3) BCO Rain Make-up Matches Tomorrow at Piney
I'm gonna ignore the fact that it's raining at my house right now (sigh), and pass on the fact that the Bull City Open is scheduled to be completed on courts 7-12 from 8am to 1pm tomorrow at Piney Wood.
Courts 1-6 will remain open for general play all day. We'll release 7-12 at or before 1pm.
Come by and cheer for someone!
5) Volunteers needed by Durham Parks and Rec
And finally, DPR always needs volunteers. Fill out
this form to express your willingness to give them a hand. This will make you feel even better about yourself.
That's all the news for now. Hope to see you at Piney tomorrow!
Best,
Sandi Metz
2024 President
