Good afternoon, all, on this beautiful fall day.

It's that time of year again.  No, not Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas, but DAPP election time!

All of the gory details are on the DAPP Elections page.  I won't repeat them here, but instead will use my brief grip on your ear to make a plea for you to get involved.

My sense from the community is that you want an organization like Durham Area Pickleball Players to exist.  I believe this to be true because y'all keep asking me/us to do things for you. :-)

It's super handy to have an organized group to advocate for Durham pickleball.  In 2024, DAPP ran the Bull City Open to raise funds for Piney (which we've not yet spent, see the 2024 financials).  DAPP is also currently coordinating with DPR to run low cost pickleball programs at Piney Wood.

Money raised via past Bull City Opens paid for permanent court dividers at Piney, and our advocacy in 2023 helped get the Piney construction over the hump when the city discovered the project needed an extra $200,000.

So much more could be done, if only you would help.

Do you ever say:
"I wish the lights at Bethesda could be turned on during cloudy days?",
"I wish we had shade structures/water fountains/year round bathrooms/etc at Piney",
"I wish I could tell if those folks on court 9-12 at Piney really have reservations",
"Windscreens!", or
"How come there aren't pickleball nets on the courts at Morreene Road?".

I know why. What's missing is you. Your thoughts, your enthusiasm, your energy, your willing hands.

Six board seats need to be filled for 2025.  This includes all of the officers, and two at large seats.
Check out the elections page for details about these open seats.
Nominate someone (or yourself!) via the candidate nomination form
Reply to this email if you need more encouragement, and I will cheerfully provide it.

DAPP needs you!

Best,
Sandi Metz
2024 President
