A great training for people who have an interest (either professional or personal) in seeing farmers' markets function successfully and increase the availability of fresh, local food. The training is on Feb. 5 in Burlington. See below for more information.

The Community Transformation Grant (CTG) Project in Region Five is pleased to host a Farmers’ Market Manager Training on February 5, 2013 from 10am to 3pm at North Park in Burlington.



Who: The training is designed for farmers’ market managers, market vendors, public health professionals and concerned citizens who wish to support the increased consumption of local foods in our region through farmers’ markets and mobile markets.



What: The training will cover the following topics:

• Farmers’ market best practices: keys to a successful market

• Farmers’ markets for all: partnering with low income communities

• Attracting and retaining vendors

• Grant writing and funding options

• Marketing, promotions and community engagement



When: February 5, 2013, 10am to 3pm

Information on the CTG Project:

The NC Community Transformation Grant Project is funded by the CDC’s Community Transformation Grants Program. It supports public health efforts to reduce preventable chronic diseases by decreasing tobacco use, increasing physical activity, improving nutrition and increasing access to evidence-based clinical preventive services. The aim of the project is to create equal access to healthy living opportunities for all North Carolinians including racial and ethnic minorities, those of low socioeconomic status and individuals living in rural NC.



Under the project, North Carolina counties have been divided into multi-county regions. Region 5 includes Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Guilford, Orange, Person and Rockingham Counties.
