A great quote from Janette Sadik-Khan the Commissioner of the NYC DOT:

"Once you realize that you can use your streets to improve the quality of life, the economics and the environmental health of your city, I think that's a transformative moment. Mayors around the world are looking at their streets differently. You don't have to be a big city like New York to make important changes that matter to millions of people every day."

Nice !

We were in Times Square between Christmas and New Year and it was amazing how much street real-estate has been given back for bike lanes and pedestrian spaces.  We also walked the Chelsea Hi-Line shown in the clip.  This is an old elevated freight rail line that goes through the heart of the Meat Packing District (and through some buildings) that is being turned into an elevated linear park.

Thanks for sharing

Here's my favorite quote in this piece:

"A lot of the changes you're seeing in NYC right now are the direct result of Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC Initiative, which is looking at all sorts of ways in all sorts of city agencies to improve the way that people live, work and play."

I imagine this involves more than just planning and transportation.  Wonder if Durham could rise to a similar challenge?
