Hi All,
There is a remarkable series of Butoh dance performances and workshops
coming to Durango the week of January 3rd.
Durango native Sheri Brown of Seattle, and Sharoni Stern of Boulder of the
Daipan Butoh Collective of Seattle will be doing two performances and three
workshops. They are also available for "informance" lecture-demos for
groups.

Butoh performers seek to transport the audience into a new way of thinking,
without dictating what they should think. One or more performers, often
wearing white make-up, moves and/or dances in a quazi-mime-like fashion
through an unusual inner or external environment either on stage or in the
real world. They intuitively use the body as a canvas in which the
imagination can lose itself to create a kind of body poetry.
These workshops are an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in
developing their body-expression skills. The workshops are open to all,
regardless of dance experience.
Check it out!
And have a Very Merry Season,
Jess Martin

More info on Butoh:
By its very nature Butoh is enigmatic, deeply mystical, elusive and
inexplicable and is frequently described as the dance of utter
darkness. Much
of what is explored in Butoh workshops and performances is the ineffable in
the body - that which is unseen and unexplored under normal circumstances
but which we seem to inherently know. In our workshops and performances we
seek the strange, the taboo. We are searching for how we can rise up from
the coldest, most inner point. Butoh performers seek to change the world,
one performance at a time.
