P.S. I had attempted to view the previous days' wallpapers as shown on Bing.com and it skipped those entirely and went back to the Rio Negro. No matter, so long as we get our daily dose of wallpapers, all is well.

Bing Wallpaper is a free wallpaper program that was developed by Microsoft for PC devices. This personalization software features a collection of wallpapers from around the world that has been featured on the Bing homepage. They can browse through the entire catalog and choose the one to set as their desktop background.
Bing Wallpaper is an alternative to other popular wallpaper apps like Lively Wallpaper, but with a simpler, more focused approach to personalization. It has a spartan settings menu and setting a wallpaper is just a matter of cycling through its wallpaper reel to find one you'll settle with.
Bing is a web search engine that was developed by Microsoft. It provides search services, including web, video, image, and map search results. One thing that the service is known for is its beautiful collection of daily wallpapers. Hence, Bing Wallpaper was released to let users have easy access to its catalog to use for their desktop background.
Using Bing Wallpaper is easy and simple. Once you have download and installed it, a program icon will appear on your system tray. Click on it to access its pop-up settings menu window. The first option will let you change wallpapers by clicking left or right. The second is a toggle to enable daily refresh for your wallpaper.
In conclusion, if you are a fan of the wallpapers getting featured on
bing.com, Bing Wallpaper provides an easier and more convenient way to be able to use them as your desktop wallpaper. It's bare bones and lacks any kind of additional features, but it works well all the same, and is worth trying out if you haven't yet.
A simple tool to deliver you amazing daily shots of nature and places from Bing. Its made mostly with dwm/i3/bspw users in mind, so it has no scripting, no config files and minimum required libraries. Actually, it needs just curl and json-c, and you probably already have both of them in your system. By default, it uses feh to set the wallpaper, but you can use any other tool via command line argument, so this dependency is optional.
I checked, but the wallpapers do not seem available in random dimensions (or even just common ones besides maybe the vesa standard) - is this documented somewhere?
Otherwise one could extract the required dimensions from randr (whether asking xrandr in a script or XRRConfigCurrentConfiguration) and if the images are available in better details like 3840x2160 also reasonably use --no-xinerama on multiscreen setups.
I don't have a solution but face the same workflow which seems to be working as designed.
Take a look at the registry settings at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\BingWallpaperApp.
The "Enable daily refresh" switch seems to be reflected by the key "OverrideWallpaper" which holds a string "0" or "1" to disable or enable the refresh.
The wallpaper app recognizes when BGInfo replaces the background image and turns off daily refresh automatically.
One solutuion might be to make BingWallpaperApp think that the replaced image is the image of the day. There are several timestamps at the mentioned registry path.
The logfile at \Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\BingWallpaperApp\Log\ will give you more hints.
Happy research :-)
The workaround I have found and which - tentatively - seems to work OK is to set BGInfo to write its wallpaper image file to the BingWallpaperApp WPImages folder in %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\BingWallpaperApp\WPImages. You can do this by setting the Location option in BGInfo's Bitmap menu:
Create a Scheduled task using Task Scheduler (under Administrative Tools) for this.
Run whether user is logged on or not (always run). Run with highest privileges (we need to be able to write the downloaded wallpaper, and set it in the ADFS theme). In this example I run the task in the Domain Administrator context. Remember this is not best practice. Instead create a user for this purpose and assign it just the right amount of rights to run this task.
Windows Server 2012R2 ADFS 3.0 (untested on ADFS 2.0, might work though)
The account that is defined in the scheduled task must have rights to modify the ADFS theme
The account that is defined in the scheduled task must be able to write the downloaded wallpaper
The account that is defined in the scheduled task must not be presented with Internet Explorer first-run experience
The account that is defined in the scheduled task must be able to run PowerShell scripts
The script as is must be run on the ADFS server
The ADFS server must be able to access
bing.com using http (port 80)
Thanks for your reply Scott. On more searching it seems it's bing wallpaper.exe that I want to find. I have bing image as a wallpaper and initially I just wanted to stop it from loading (i've put my own image now) but the wallpaper exe file must still be in my system I just can't find it. Is there any truth in the rumour that it's a key logging bit of software too that obviously woudn't be safe. I don't use it as a search engine. Thank you
I am sure everyone would agree that every images featured on Bing.com are nothing short of being breathtaking. On all my PCs, notebooks, my Android phones and even my windows mobile phone, it is so easy to automatically download these images as wallpapers. I like to be greeted with awesome photos everytime I switch on the device.
Microsoft has launched a new Bing Wallpaper app for the desktop. The app allows setting Bing's daily image as your Desktop background. Once Bing receives a new 'daily' image, it will be automatically set as a wallpaper in Windows 10.
Are you trying to remove the Bing wallpaper or the landscape art that appears whenever you start up your computer? This wikiHow article will show you how to disable Bing Wallpaper and Windows Spotlight, two features that automatically set your desktop wallpaper to landscape photos.
Of course, you can also just elect to install the Bing Wallpapers app, but according to many reviews, the app stops updating the wallpapers at random. I have not tested this on my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, but I have had it installed on previous phones and I experienced the same issues. This method works for me.
The app gives you access to the current Bing image, as well as an archive of daily images that Bing has used in the past. You can quickly set any of the available images as your home screen or lock screen wallpaper. There's also an automatic update option that allows the app to automatically swap your wallpaper to the daily image as it changes.
"Bing Wallpapers features a collection of beautiful images featured on the Bing homepage over the last 10 years," Microsoft says in the app's description. "Browse images, learn where they're from, and set them as your mobile wallpaper."
In the details of each image, you'll find more details about what it shows, along with where it was taken and who the photographer is. When browsing through past images, you can filter by the color you want, category, and locations. There's also a portion of the app that lets you choose from solid colors to set as your wallpaper.
While Bing may lag far behind Google on the search front, one of its most unique features is the shifting high-quality image that hits its homepage every day. Previously, the only way to have your wallpaper automatically update to this image on your phone was to use Microsoft Launcher. The app's launch also follows the launch of a similar app for desktop PCs last month.
One thing that differentiates Bing from other search engines is its beautiful background images that change daily. If you're a fan of the photos, Microsoft has an Android app that automatically downloads and sets the high-resolution image at your handset's wallpaper every day.
Once installed and opened, the Bing Wallpapers app's home page presents you with the search engine's daily image (and some information about the photo when selected), a gallery of additional backgrounds, and solid-color wallpapers. You can scroll through these options or use the search bar to find something specific.
You will immediately be taken to a preview of the current day's wallpaper. You can tap on the "Preview" box to see the entire background without any overlays or select the "Set Wallpaper" button to add the image to your Android handset.
Once the wallpaper has been set, you will be taken back to the Auto Change Wallpaper menu. Here, you can adjust the feature's advanced settings, including how frequently the background changes and if you want new images to download only when your Android smartphone is on Wi-Fi or if it's allowed to grab photos when using cellular data.
Bing has an official Wallpaper app that lets you automatically change your desktop background to match the daily wallpaper. This article will show you how to use that app and, as an alternative, a dynamic daily-rotating desktop background on Windows.
