If you are being asked to enter a payment method, Apple has multiple criteria* requiring the presence of a payment method, even for free items. Since you may be encountering one of those situations, you have no option but to enter a valid payment method if you wish to continue downloading. Read the support article Add a payment method to your Apple ID - Apple Support about how to do that. The payment method may not be charged if you also have account balance or the item is free, but the payment method has to be present. This next article lists valid payment methods for different countries but note that in this situation Apple Account balance alone apparently may not meet the requirement and you need to use another payment method until you find one that satisfies Apple's requirement (often a credit or debit card): Payment methods that you can use with your Apple ID - Apple Support .

If you have already entered a payment method, use the first link above to check it. If a message appears in red there is a problem with it. If the information is still correct and current, contact your financial institution.

On the App Store, even if you're trying to download a free app, Apple requires you to have a payment method on file for your Apple ID. This is mainly for verification purposes and to ensure that you're a legitimate user. However, you can still proceed without adding a credit card by following these steps:

Remember that Apple's policies and procedures can change, so the steps mentioned here might vary slightly based on your device's iOS version and your location. Additionally, make sure you're following legitimate sources for information and support to avoid scams.

If the SIM Card is still in the SIM bay area, very thin (needle nose tweezers), or carefully manipulated with a thin pin. If not careful permanent damage to the SIM bay or the Logic Board can occur. If the SIM Card has slipped deeper into the iPhone, the iPhone will have to be take apart to remove it. Make Genius reservation and take to Apple Store for help.

Thanks for your reply, Brad 805. After trying the method, though, I really didn't want to push things. I live in a remote area, but yesterday went into a city. Unfortunately the 'Mac Shop' there does not deal phones! Went to my provider who didn't have a clue what to do except send it back to Apple (which I am sure would have been 'pricey'). I mentioned it to my dr because I had missed and appt (in the iPhone calendar) and she suggested this shop where they dealt with solar panels but had a fellow in the back who 'fixed iphones. WHAT a godsend he was!!!! Very young fellow but knew his stuff. He even showed me how to do it!!!! You cut a thin strip off the bottom of one of those stick on screen protectors (slightly narrower than the SIM slot). You put the sticky part against the SIM...insert it into the slot....pull it out...and VOILA there is your SIM stuck to the screen protector strip. He was MAGIC and didn't even charge me!!! Hope this helps someone else as everywhere else I went (even a computer repair shop).

THAT was exactly the answer i was looking for! My girlfriend had the same issue, and after visiting the apple store where they said there was nothing to do, I went home and tried with a piece of sticky paper (from one of the things they put on your Checked luggage at the airport).

I dipped the end part of the needle into it. And waited. I waited about 30 seconds. I dipped it again until it was getting tacky (reduced chance of dripping into the iPhone, and also a reasonable coating of glue).

I was getting really desperate and found this thread, so I decided to give the super glue thing a shot... AND IT WORKED!!! Instead of using a pin, I used kind of a thick plastic that was thin enough to fit through the slot. I applied pressure to the stuck sim card for about 2 minutes, then pulled it out, and voila!! Thank you so much!

3. You will need another papercilp. Stick it on top of the sim be careful not to damage the lcd. Push it a little but lower, don't push too hard, keep the papercip inside (That's why using a vacuum cleaner won't work)

You cannot activate an iPhone without a SIM. If the device is locked to a carrier, which the error you indicate says that it is, then you can contact Apple Support and ask and they should be able to provide you with the answer. Once you find out who the carrier the device is locked to is, you can see if they provide unlocking services, and if you qualify. If you do, you can request the unlock and then you can use whatever SIM you wish. See this about the unlocking of an iPhone. How to unlock your iPhone - Apple Support

I respect a lot your opinion as an expert, so I wonder if you could take also a look to this new post where years ago you were a great contributor and provide me your today opinions with your iPhone 7 Plus .

I know this is an old post but it's still an issue that I had to solve tonight and should work for people in your situation. After getting the failed screen "Sim Required" Pull the SIM card out of your working phone and put it in for just a minute. Touch "Try Again" and it will take you to the Location Services screen. At that point you're set. Pull the SIM card out and put it back in your regular phone. You should be able to proceed through restoring the old phone or setting it up as a new device without a SIM card and use it as an iPod Touch. Hope this helps.

When you are presented with the options to either turn the phone off or to cancel, just tap on cancel and then tap the top of the screen to return to the call you made earlier. After this, just tap the call end key, and voila, you now have an activated device and can use it as an iPod with all the apps just by connecting it to wifi.

I sort of have the same question, I have an IPhone5 that i need to activate, I cannot find out which network its tied to though, I thought it was on O2 so I bought an O2 sim but it said network not recognised, ive tried the same with 3, and Lyca sims but there so far all wrong networks. I cannot go thru trying evry single network till i click with the correct sim.

The phone was brought thru a 3rd party who I have had a bit of a disagreement with so its not possible to ask her. ive tried putting the sim Im currently using in thinking it may be because the others were NEW Sim cards....... but that didn't work. ive tried it using my WiFi but that wont work, I've tried to do it with ITunes but that wont work. Im starting to pull my hair out now. So PLEASE if you know Some Trick or Hack any bloody way so I can find out the network carrier of this Effing Phone without me having to spend who knows how much on every sim...... till i hit jackpot. PLEASE PLEASE SHARE IT WITH ME.

I really don't understand your reply. The poster you responded to received a reasonable answer immediately after posting. Yours makes no sense. They can call Apple, who will tell them which carrier the phone is locked to. Then call that carrier and get it unlocked.

After you activate your phone you can set up imessage to work with an email address only. It will continue to say wiating for activation under imessage because the phone does not have a phone number associated with it but imessage will still work with the email address

none of these helped sorry guys.... im still stuck on activating it.... so far i used select leanguage- english. than i connected it to wifi, than it says activating your phone.... activation failed. thats all. i wanna know how to get pass it so i can use it as an ipod. do you guys understand me more.

so i dont know how im gonna get a sim card i just wanted to know if theres a way i can pass it cause idk how im gonna get an at&t sim card when i have verizon. can i just go and buy a normal sim card and do it. like a sim that doesnt even have a number

Hi! So my iPhone 6s is without sim card and can I restore it to iOS 9.2 without sim card. I am not currently going to do it but if I want to can I wipe all data and set it up as a new device through iTunes without having to insert SIM card to activate it. Because the first time I set it up it required SIM card to activate and I didn't have one so a friend just gave me his just to activate it but now it's set up it won't require it again right? I'm asking because I am thinking of enrolling it on the beta softw program cause the new betas are pretty awesome and just in case I need to resto it afterwards.

You will need a SIM to activate the device. I would also watch loading beta software on a device you use regularly, because you cannot get any troubleshooting assistance here, only through the beta program. And, you have to ensure you follow all of the instructions they provide there, as it requires an extra backup and adhering to their program.

Oh yeah if I need to restore I definitely will but currently I am on 9.2 official and even if I decide to go on 9.3 beta publ beca the features are amazing I don't think I I will need to restore because although Apple says it's beta software and you may have issues they make the betas so good that I actually sometimes forget I am on beta.;)
