back to me, I guess.
Firmly fitted with my new spear and my new level die, I go on the hunt. Sadly, since I don't have the range of a bow, I only came across one monster... an bat. While weak, it still remained a perfect opportunity to poke it full of holes.
Little did I know, this bat was no rookie, it was a friggity level 3... Before we dive head first, I use my reach to get a good estimate of how I'll fare. (I know it makes no real difference as a good roll will just be gusted away...)
Griffin: 0, 4, 2, 3 + spear = 9
I think that's a fair roll, so I'm effing going for it. Balls to the wall, right? Besides, I have a strength potion if I need it.
The bat throws down some sick moves and comes out with an 8! (4+2+2) Furious, he throws a temper tantrum, knocking my happy roll all over the place. But I get up, gather my goods and charge back in.
Griffin: 2 + Shield, 2 + spear, 1 and 2 (I guess that gust of wind really knocked me about)
(Zu)bat: 6 + 3 + 4
Woof. I'm getting creamed. I shield bash the crap out of him, knocking him off his power blow, rerolling his 6 into a 2. But I'm still losing by 2. My only hope is to grab my trusty strength potion and hope for the best. Like popeye with a can of spinach, I drain the potion into my ale laiden belly and swing for an extra two damage.
With the bat whizzing around tiredly and me barely able to carry my own equipment, we both come out with a total of 9 (Me: 2+Shield, 2+spear, 2, 1, 2(str ptn) vs. Bat: 2, 3, 4).
I take a hit to the face, knocking away my fresh new level die, but the bat dies slowly at my feet due to extreme blood loss. I call it a victory.
Behind him, I see a coarse, rocklike object, but it is unnaturally round. I investigate it and find that it's no rock at all. It's a friggen bomb! This could come in handy (maniacal laugh).
At the end of the turn, I am as follows:
Griffin: 4 exp, 1 fame (Lvl 3 Bat), Spear+1, Armor, Bow (unequipped), Bomb, 2 Level dice (1 missing from wound)
