I like the idea of ice "freezing" a die.  As in keeping its facing past one combat.  Petrify could remove a die past one combat.  As a matter of simplicity, it should be easy to remedy.  Maybe resting can remove lingering effects.

I actually quite like that idea. Also, it could be frozen at it's point, but not taken out of combat? Just not rerolled. Lowest die is frozen in place? That would reduce the blow taken by the player, still giving them 1 or 2 added to their battle score.

Resting would help you survive, especially if you had 1:1 frozen. :)

And it could be used as a spell, as well as an action by a new monster (see my Gorgon post).
Still unclear as to the difference between the terms "Freeze" and "Petrify." To me, Freeze seems more temporary - perhaps during a single multi-roll combat, you'd have to use the numbers from the previous roll. Petrify seems more long lasting, requiring you to use the same numbers with the next monster, until possibly healed by rest or a potion.

my thought is that freeze is still an effective roll. It just doesn't get picked up and rolled during the battle. A 1 is still a 1 even after everything got gusted. It's just not rerolled. Even after battle, it's still frozen?

Petrify would be more like a wound, but doesn't come back with health potions.

I've play-tested "fear" a couple of times (giving it to the skeleton and the zombie).  My plan was that fear would negate one of your opponent's abilities.  Sadly, the concept sounds fun, but in game this just translates to fewer things happening.  Essentially, the hero loses an ability and the monster loses an ability.  Just kind of boring.
