I would like to propose making a FAQ that we expand as the game is played and expanded.

Q: If you draw a locked chest, can you roll your hammer die to attempt opening it?

A:

Q: Can you remove a monster's only die with the whip?

A:

Q: Can you play the "Gust" spell yourself to hinder a dragon using it?

A:

Q: Can you use the sword's ability to reroll a spell that failed?

A:

Q: Can you use your armor's ability to reroll a monster/ opponent spell?

A:

Q: Can you, after letting the monster start using abilities, "jump back in" and use spells/ abilities?

A:

IIRC, yes that's how the hammer is used, no dragons are immune to gust (as are fire elementals to fire), yes you can take turns using abilities.

Q: If the Execute symbol comes up on a player's die roll, and the monster is not of the indicated level, can the number on the die still be added to the player's attack total?

aril.teigseth - The answer to every question is yes, except for using Gust on dragons.  Dragons are immue since they have the symbol first.

Michael - Yes.

When I draw the Skeleton Key as one of my treasures, do I have to equip it as one hand worth of equipment prior to the fight in order to use it on any potential locked chests that result?  Or can I just treat it like a permanent Small Key die -- keeping it in my "inventory" and rolling it when a locked chest comes up?

Say a monster "drains" away my armor and I haven't used the armor ability on it yet?  Can the monster use it?  How about if I have already used it -- can he use it again?

Say I'm level one (so I only have 1 Hero Level Die), and I take two wounds (losing a fight to a Ghost).  Obviously, I can only give up 1 Hero Level Die, as that's all I have.  However, do I have to heal (recover) two wounds before I get my Die back?

Now that I think of it, rerolls are simpler if you can use them on any dice, but it will work better with the expansions if the sword doesn't allow rerolls on one-use dice and spells.

Michael - A skeleton key is not equipped, but is a bonus die that may be rolled once per locked chest.

You cannot use an ability from a drained die, but you can prevent your opponent from using the ability in time.  Really, this rarely seems to happen.

You cannot have negative level dice.  I realize an error in the wording though.  The wound from ghosts and the healing from slimes only results upon defeating the monster.  I've tried wording this multiple ways and it always ends up creating some new confusion.  Maybe I should just list the effect on the reward side of the die.  I could do the same thing with bonus experience and reduce some of the clutter.

All good questions, and I will make sure the rules/FAQ address everything mentioned in this thread.

I think that leaving it described as is was fine. It's the same as the experience symbol. All symbols on the bottom right are resolved after the monster is defeated for only the active player. Considering not all monsters have equal post-fight actions on all faces, I don't think it should be on the reward face of the die.

Yes, now that you mention it, I did actually know that the bottom right icons were resolved after the fight.  For some reason my brain just wasn't applying this rule on the ghost.

The current wording is "After combat ends."  Your wording of "After the monster is defeated" works much better.  With the current wording, it would trigger upon losing a fight.
