Makerspace's Future

We've had some bad news, our landlord has tripled our rent, from
$300/month to $900/month, it's a ridiculous amount. We can't
realistically stay - so we need to figure out what to do - I haven't
found anywhere obvious to move to, there is a space at the old King
Edward Court (where we started) for $450/month, but that's still too
much.

My only plan at the moment is to go on hiatus, I have space in my
basement to pack stuff into until when/if we can find a place we can
afford.

So I'm looking for feedback from all of you - any bright ideas? know a
place we could use? please share them here, or come down to Makerspace
on Thursday

Paul maybe we can reach an arrangement with the Inventors Lab.

Sorry to hear about all the trouble, Paul. Let me know what new opportunities might be, I would still like to be involved when I can. Happy to help with moving. Couldn't make it last night due to other commitments, but I'm expecting to be available on Thursdays more often after the election.

Thanks everyone for coming out last night, we're going to investigate
Ivan's proposal (which might mean that we find some way to share space
in Petridish's nascent hardware space) - I'll talk to them some time
this coming week.

Whatever happens we have to move somewhere, please mark your calendars
for Sat afternoon 23 Sept - we'll move much of our stuff and trash the
rest, we'll need a bunch of people to help us (I'm still days off of
crutches) - worst case we'll put stuff in my cellar until we figure
out what we are doing.

If there's stuff you've lent us and wyou ant it back please come in
on the 23rd, or let me know.

I met yesterday with Jason and Ivan at Petridish - I think that we
will be able to move in there and share space in their Inventor's Lab
- we have a broad agreement on doing that - we'll probably have to do
some gentle negotiation about details as it happens, there's good will
on both sides and I think it will work well.

The one downside is that we're at least a month out from the space
being available to move in - so we're going to move out of our current
space into my cellar on Saturday, and then go on hiatus for that
month, and then move again when the space is available.

So please come and help on Saturday afternoon, I'll be arriving about 1:30

FYI: we are almost ready to have the space at Petridish made available, here’s an update picture of the building work:

 

 

Petridish is a member of the https://www.fablabs.io/ collective.

 

We could arrange to have some meetings in the building prior to the new space being opened if there is a desire to catch up – Will talk to Paul and the team about this as an option.
