The Dunedin Film Society is pleased to announce two additional screenings next month to mark the beginning of our 80th Anniversary celebrations. These will take place in Cinema 1 at Rialto in Moray Place.

On Wednesday August 5 the film will be Josef von Sternberg’s The Blue Angel, the 1930 film that made a star of Marlene Dietrich.

On Wednesday August 12 the film will be F W Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu  A Symphony of Horror.
Both films have been supplied to the Society by the Goethe Institut and admission to the screenings is free to both Society members and members of the public.
We have arranged for a local film scholar familiar with Weimar-era German cinema to introduce both the screenings and put the films in their literary, political and cinematic context.
Both screenings will be preceded with an hour of appropriately German and Austrian-tinged hospitality to celebrate our 80th birthday.
This will take place in the Long Room, on the first floor at Rialto. Admission to these functions will be $10 per person each night. Rialto will have their own cash bar operating upstairs as well.

We are hoping that members will get into celebratory mode...

and come dressed as a character from the films. For those who do (it’s not compulsory), there will be the chance to win prizes.
As seating is limited, we ask that Members, full or half-year, put their names down now for a seat at one or both of the screenings by emailing a reservation to dunedinfi...@gmail.com. If you also wish to attend the preceding birthday functions at 6.30pm, please purchase your ticket in advance via internet banking (with Function as the reference) or in cash to our Treasurer, Katherine, at one of our July screenings.
From 8 July holders of three movie passes can reserve a seat, depending on availability. These screenings do not count as one of your three films, they’re a bonus for you. Three movie pass holders are also welcome to attend the birthday functions.

A reply form has been created for the German film screenings and functions. The link to it is here!
