I took a look at your work, very good, though I would prefer the style of picture 1, its still excellent.  A few concerns; firstly, the village generation needs to be worked on, the village tries to replicate the shape of the dune, it would be better if the villages were their own custom biome that was flat and separate from the rest of the regular dune biome, secondly there are far too many cacti, about one every nine chunks is more realistic in the world of dune.  One more biome (besides the suggested dune, village, and polar ones) needs implementing, the rock outcroppings, they shouldn't very common, but shouldn't be as small as the islands in ocean biomes.  Thanks for listening (or rather watching) me ramble.

As of now I have gotten rid of all cacti and dead bushes, though I might add them back latter in smaller quantities,  I am currently working on shield walls but random rock outcroppings are next on my to-do list (they will be generated to look like wind worn rock).  I may try to level villages at a latter date but for now I am going to work on the overall components and then come back and begin perfecting things.  As for the dune types I think I will try to have it so that you can choose between the two and latter I may add a gui to change various settings such as dune height, with, length, ext.  I have made some changes to villages which I think make them look better and more resistant to sandstorms (though I have yet to implement sandstorms) and have gotten rid of all the water.  I have also adjusted the sky color to a faded orange and have gotten rid of clouds.  I am planning on releasing a new pre-gen map as soon as I get the shield walls working.

I appreciate the input and the interest.

Cool, I'm glad this mods not dead :P. a quick example of the random rock outcroppings would be the generator for tatooine in a star wars mod:  http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/734708-125star-wars-mod-new-022-available-for-download/
It isn't 1.3 yet but it looks like it wouldn't be to hard to convert his coding into our uses (with his permission of course) but be sure to edit it slightly, he uses custom blocks in it.

Wow, nice job on the shield walls, however I thought that that was the kind of thing that the houses used, the fremen steichs are more like cave systems from what I understand, can't wait for the full release :3

Yes that is correct.  It will only spawn around villages and it will look more natural now (basicly a ring of rock outcroppings).  I havent got the code done yet for that but hopefully It will be ready in the next couple of days.  In the mean time I have gotten rock outcroppings to work and have done a few tweeks to correct some errors.  The villages in dune are discribed as being "of pan and sink" so I will likely try to replicate this and basicly put a flat stone ground where the villages are (possibly with a few layers of sand or gravel on top).  The steichs (which will likely not be automaticly spawned but instead left to be made by the players) will be in the rock outcroppings.

just tried out new pre-gen, its awesome (as usual), but didn't the fremen live in more plateau style outcroppings with a small crater like oasis in the middle?

Another thing, the villages seem to be generating without the sandstone and with cobble and wood again? bug?

In response to your first question the fremen had plants and such fed by dew collectors which they often hid within impressions on the top of rocks, (I could make this a rare occurrence but there would be no water just plants).  As to your second question it is not so much a bug as the fact that I am in the process of converting over from the old modloader to the new modloader (there were a few bugs) and have not yet finished transferring files, in addition I will likely be creating a separate set of village generation files for added compatibility with other mods.  I am currently debaiting how much to have pregenerate as Minecraft is about building things...  I may leave some shield walls without villages so that players can build there own.

As always, thanks for the input.

by the way, you might want to make it only as a world gen option so it doesn't cause conflicts as much as it normally would.

The dune world is already programed as a world gen option....  Are you talking about adding options as far as specific features?

Yeah I did not want anyone to accidentaly mess up any of there pre-existing maps and I felt that most people would want to be able to go back and forth between dune and non-dune worlds.  I have also programed it to where the sky is orange with no clouds only in the dune world whereas in other worlds it remains the same.  The only thing that will be changed in the other worlds will be added craft-able items and possably the addition of a thirst bar.... (haven't begun programing thurst bar so I dont know if I will be able to make it only work in the dune world).

You know, you would probably get alot more dls and beta testers if you released this on the mc forums WIP section

I already have http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1456251-dunecraft/ .  But that was about a month ago and only one person responded... Probably way down in the forms by now.

I'm going to focus a bit more on promotion once I have more of the mod completed... for now most people will not just want a desert with a few rock outcroppings so its not going to go very far.  Once I finally get sand worms working.....  (and that is difficult because of the complex articulation and movement so it will be a while) then there will be more people who want it.  For now any ad campaign would just convince people that the mod was boring.
