I reckon that all the things in a fremkit should be in the mod. A Fremkit is a desert survival kit and was used by Paul and Jessica in the first book when they were on the run form the Harkonnen. A according to the Dune Encyclopedia a fremkit contains: (the definitions come from the glossary in the back of the book Dune)
  • Literjon: a one-liter container for transporting water
  • Stilltent: a tent designed to reclaim the moisture from the air inside
  • Energy caps: (no idea what these do)
  • Recaths: tubes linking the waste disposal system to the cycling filters of a stillsuit
  • Sandsnork: a device used to pump air into a sand covered stilltent
  • Binoculars: (don't need to explain)
  • Repkit: repair and replacement essentials for a stillsuit
  • Sinkchart: a map of the Arrakis surface with reference to paracompass routes on it
  • Baradye pistol: used for measurement, signaling in the desert or marking spice blows.
  • Filtplugs: a nose filter unit worm with a stillsuit
  • Paracompas: a compass that determines direction by local magnetic anomaly.
  • Maker hooks: hooks used to capture, mount and steer a sandworm
  • Thumper: short stake with a spring-driven clapper a one end. Used to summon Shai-hulud
  • Fire pillar: rocket used to signal across the open desert

The in the book a "Manual of the Friendly Desert" is also in a fremkit this could act like a "recipe book" in the mod and could contain information on how to make everything and what it did.

I'm defiantly liking the recipe book idea.  With the Literjon, it could act in a similar way that a bucket does, for the stilltent you could ask to use some of the code from CampCraft.  I think we should ignore the energy caps until we know what they are, on the Sandsnork, I think it should be included as part of the stilltent.  The Repkit shouldn't have to be an Item, but rather we can just pretend that you character uses it automatically.  The Sinkchart should be similar to a vanilla minecraft map, but it should show biomes with quicksand and other danger in a different color than regular sand.  The baradye should not be necessary in ssp, and in smp people will usually end up just giving each other their coordinates and putting coords of important places down on notepad, same goes for the fire pillar.  The Paracompass should work Identically to the vanilla compass, The thumper should probably just spawn one Shai hulud then break into an item (so it doesn't start spawning hordes of the things).  The filtplugs and recaths should be included in the basic stillsuit.  I think that by default the player should be a freeman and have all the things mentioned below as well as a stillsuit once they spawn.  The stillsuit should either occupy it's own slot in your inventory, or just be defaultly worn by the player and not be toggle-able so that players can still wear armors on top of the stillsuit.  (Perhaps an incredibly rare and valuable crysarmor as well as crys weapons?)
