My name is Tom and I live in Oakland Park. I've been a fan of Sci/Fi
for nearly 40 years.

I realize that the focus of this group is the universe created by
Frank Herbert. But is anyone willing to discuss other works? While I
read most of the Dune series, I never could get into Battlefield Earth
and as for Dianetics??? Please lets not go there.

But there are other authors that I enjoy reading and I'm looking for a
group that is willing to discuss them. Is it just me, or does it seem
that every Sci/Fi book club seems to focus on one ficton and leave the
others unobserved and languishing in negelect in the dust of some
forgotten bookshelf.

There are several authors who have done much to bring Sci/Fi into the
21st century where a lot of thing that were fiction 50 and 60 years
ago aren't anymore. Can anyone recommend a group that talks about
these authors?

Hi Tom,
I want to thank you for finding my group. I am continuing the Sci/
Fantasy Book Group over on my blog www.monsterscifishow.wordpress.com.
The next book is Stephenie Meyers The Host which will online for you
to join on September 24. Please make a suggestion for the next book
and I will post it on my blog.

Thanks,
Montgomery (Monster)

Hey Monster,

I just checked with the BCL and they have this huge waiting list on the first two books in the Twilight series.  Is this the ones you're pklanning to discuss?  Hopefuly I'll be able to read them bsfore next month.

Hi Tom,
I did the first book of the Twilight series only. You can actually
read a transcript from the online chat at this link:
http://monsterscifishow.wordpress.com/2008/06/25/transcripts-from-scififantasy-book-group-twilight/.
I might continue the series next year. The Host is a separate stand
alone story and is not part of the Twilight series. Hope this helps.
Even if you don't get the book, do stop by the chatroom as I tried to
look at other works in the same genre. The transcript will give you a
pretty good idea.

Thanks,
Montgomery (Monster)
