Hello Gary,
Your questions are at the very heart of what we are doing in this Duncan research. We have uncovered a lot of insights into the makeup of the men who have fallen into Duncan group F.
You and the folks in group F are the most proactive of any of the Duncan groups in this project. This is why we are learning more about your lineages.
I can only present one view of a grouping on the FTDNA website. A second view of group F is the stick trees of the men in group F. This is created from the male line info that folks send me. Dean has been helping me keep this updated. This is found on the main DNA project website (see below). I do not know if a Rev War Duncan is in this group.
I apologized as I am behind in finishing up with the latest analysis of the Big SNP tests taken last winter. The lasted results have uncovered some very clear closer cousin grouping within the six men SNP tested so far.
Review the 2015 year end group F results I sent last December. This is also on the project website. This will give you a view from the first round of SNP testing done during the 2014 sale.
I have attached a snapshot of these men and the 2015 additional test results with the new subgrouping I.e. closer cousin levels we are finding. This is what we want to uncover with the additional testing. We are driving the family structure down into the last 200-300 years at least where we may be able to use our genealogies.
I will give more details in the upcoming SNP testing update but what we now know is that Dean #36576 and Rodney #372322 form a subfamily unit and Jason #28358 and Michael #20692 are a different subgroup. Again think of a family growing over time all are related but breaking into distant cousin level groups.
Now we know that Dean and Rodney need to work on their genealogies together to find their common ancestor and that Jason and Michael need to do the same. This is not the end but we are getting closer!
I would like to get more big SNP testing done in group F to see more of this subfamily division. There are no quick and simple answers and this DNA testing research is on going. I would like every one to test to the 111 marker level at some point but now the focus needs to be on the 67 marker level and the big SNP tests and then develop a group F test for the other men at a much lower cost.
We may never find the final answer for every man in this group because the paper records are just not there but the genetics are telling us emphatically that you share a common genetic group and as we drive it down toward the present we are getting the clearest view we will ever have.
Thanks for your help and participation in this important Duncan research.
Regards,
Tim Duncan
