Dean and all of the group that will be attending on Sunday October 12 at our house.  Anita and I are excited about seeing all of the cousins.  Hopefully this meeting will get people a little closer to understanding their past ancestors over the 2 days.  Dean,  is someone putting together a list of who is coming so that we will know a number and be able to prepare in advance?
Thanks to all for attending this meeting.  From my meetings and conversations with Dean,  I know it will be worth the trip here.  Look forward to seeing you all.
thanks
Kim Duncan

Kim/Dean, I spoke with Brother (John Wallace Duncan) yesterday and he will be coming with me to both events (Sunday & Monday).

Hi, Dean,
I would suggest we chip in the for supplies which would include a ream or two of copy paper and a box of photo paper.  You would know what type photo paper works best with your copier.  We should also include the cost of the nametags, etc.

Cheryl

About Cheryl's suggestion to chip in for supplies:  Good idea.   Since I'll be bringing my printer/copier, I'll also bring a couple of reams of paper and some printer cartridges.   Users pay the "kitty" 5 cents/copy.   Anita is doing name tags so she can take her cost from the "Kitty" as well.  The kitty could reimburse the cookies ladies as well.   Someone needs to bring an ice chest full of soft drinks and bottles of water -- reimbursed from the kitty too.

Dean, I'll be glad to talk about my experiences with the Family Finder DNA test.  However, I'll have to pass on discussing the possible Slaughter family connection.  As far as I know, I don't have any Slaughters in my line.  Maybe I'll learn differently from our meeting!

On my to-do list is to:
1) make a list of any possible Family Finder DNA matches to my Duncans and how they might relate to our group
2) document exactly what I "know" about my earliest Duncan ancestor and his family members
3) document where my early Duncan ancestors lived

Hello Jason:   My mistake on connecting Slaughter family with you.   I guess I remembered that you had some 'Germanic' sounding ancestor and Slaughter came to mind -- I had just been in contact with Agnes and her Slaughter ancestral name.   I'll try to keep your Holtzclaw in mind next time.
About Family Finder:  I'm going to try to get back to mine and see where it leads.

Folks,

I want to add emphasis to what Jason has on his to-do list below.

His points 2 and 3 are so important in our family research.  In our family research we need to keep what we can document separate from other less solid information.  I never throw anything away as information but keeping things compartmentalized is very important.

I have my working hypothesis beyond what I have strong documentation for. I keep looking for documentation  but also am conducting DNA testing on those possible lines to test out my hypothesis.  In my case my working hypothesis is being supported my the DNA testing.

Sadly as we know there are some very bad Duncan family histories out there which keep getting picked-up and passed on as fact.  One of the worst ones is the Gustav Anjou fraudulent works  which includes Duncan families.

Cheers,

Tim Duncan

Hello to all,

Dean, the agenda looks good.  I’m not sure how others feel about this as this may serve more of my agenda, but I was wondering if everyone could bring in some pictures of themselves through the years.  Maybe include family members, i.e., brothers, uncles, cousins, etc.

Please add Mary to the list as she will be joining me.  I will make my hotel reservations in the next few weeks.  I may spend a day or two in Florida prior to our meeting.

I look forward to seeing everyone.

Wayne
