This update includes reflections on a documentary about a traumatic
assassination that has inspired remarkably little curiosity, and on
two podcasts that both focus on high profile hoaxes. What connects the
three is confirmation bias, that is the idea that we are often ready
to accept incomplete or flawed information if it happens to correspond
to our pre-existing beliefs. We might think of this as mapping an
event to a pre-written script we happen to have already in our mind.
