Rusted Shut - Hot Sex 12"

"Of all the fucked up, nasty ass, deliriously damaged rock bands in
the recent history of the American underground wonderland
(particularly Texas), none come close to the squirm and hellacious
sqwunk of Rusted Shut. From the incinerated skum of Houston weirdness
improv outfit Grinding Teeth arose Rusted Shut in 1986. Their shows
were a notorious mess, drunken and fueled by cheap-jack acid. After
years of slovenly survival they?ve been somewhat rescued from
universal distaste by the current noise legions. The Emperor Jones
label released the Rehab CD in 2003 and AA Records did a sick lathe (?
Bring Out Your Dead?) last year and their notorious ?Fuckin?? track
off the 2006 End Times Festival live comp is still the only loop that
matters (check their myspace page for that one). It was with some
apprehension of being held up by knife point that we unzipped their
new Hot Sex EP (Dull Knife). But goddamn if this is not a great
goddamned beast of a record. The core duo of Don Walsh and Sybil
Chance (the original still alive members of Grinding Teeth) and
Domokos (on drums and ?earthscreamer?) just lay it out in an unctious
smear of rawk n roll decimating any obvious pretence of hardcore,
black metal, death metal, sludge, punk, avant improv goop etc.?shit is
the REAL amerika full on. Salute and die." - Thurston Moore/Byron
Coley, Arthur Magazine

"Timely issue from this label that have been doing a good job of
documenting the past and future sound of Texas: for a group as, uh,
notorious and long-serving as Rusted Shut their lack of any kind of
international profile would be kinda puzzling if it wasn?t for their
in-built auto-destruct mechanism, their uncompromising approach to
their art and their almost impenetrably weird combination of behemoth
riffs, psychedelic F/X and mind-phasing production. Hot Sex is only
their 3rd release in 22 years and comes from 1997 sessions cut by what
many people consider this group?s finest line-up, just before the
notorious Rehab sessions. These guys have actually been around since
1986 in Houston, Texas (where the fuck else?) and have gathered fans
and devotees that include Wolf Eyes (Nate Young released a lathe-cut
by them on AA Records) and Tom and Christina Carter. Their lives shows
are legendarily chaotic, with tales of actual physical fights on
stage, drunk beyond belief, ear-crippling volume and endless monochord
riffs. The sound on this four track 33rpm EP (35+ mins) is uniquely
confusing, with live jams that cross the torrents of contemporary
Whitehouse with a production style that make em sound like they are
phasing in and out of separate space/time continuums, pounding riffs
that take The Stooges as far as the most fanatical Billy Bao sides,
hardcore/doom vox, Dead C style breakdowns and a totally fucked up,
sociopathic psychedelia that is only really comparable to fellow Lone
Star schlocktroopers The Butthole Surfers. If you dug the No Fucker
EPs but yr more into hallucinogens than amphetamines then this could
be your brand of brain erasure. Seen these guys compared to Brainbombs
a lot and while there?s a similarly wretched misanthropic streak that
runs through the music, these guys are a hell of a lot weirder. The
first track in particular, ?Woman?, takes several spins before it even
begins to make sense. This is a great, unique psychedelic hardcore
record, and the whole package just looks fantastic. Love it. Edition
of 500 copies. Highly recommended." - David Keenan, Volcanic Tongue

"White Noise. White Heat. White House. Paint peeling MINUTES of
delayed vocals cut away to organ twiddling and bass throbbing with a
trenchcoat mafia fashion sense. When the drums kick in the songs begin?
uh, proper. It all bobs along like Brainbombs buried in an Anton LaVey
circus (corpse) grinder fuck all. The guitar f/x and vocals start to
bite. Ya? think it?s skipping. It?s not. Stereo destroyer. All the
more scary: these dudes are legit Texas out-theres. You can picture
their nappy beards and feces encrusted sweatpants. Burzum albums.
Miserable Life. Primordial Action Swingers vibe? Yeah, the stench is
lingering. Before Jarboe-fucked-up-the Swans, the cutter fans and Trve
Kvlt Metal denizens will have a heyday in this pile of puke. I can?t
tell if it?s slowing down on its own or if my turntable belt just
died. I?d review this track by track, but it all seems so blurry to
me. I just woke up and I think my asshole is bleeding. This is hate.
Like if Slicing Grandpa or Billy Bao were actually willing to kill
people. File it in your ?taste of plaque? section. 500 copies out
there. Mine was lucky to come with a short DVD of them playing along
with exposed titties and Painteens alumni. Groovy." - (RSF), Terminal
Boredom

Indian Jewelry/Future Blondes 12":

"Two heavy electronic/phaser rock outfits bring the sidelong
barbiturate dance party to your place. Indian Jewelry has never been
able to sit still within its preferred bank of styles, so it?s great
to hear them really develop a sickly, nauseating groove on ?Zing Zang?
that the Butthole Surfers might have taken as their own twenty years
back, and by the time the spoken word section kicks in, you?ve either
barfed in the sink or passed out. That?s how this works. Future
Blondes is a new project from Domokos of Rusted Shut, focusing on
driven, heavily distorted drum machine tracks, synths, and obfuscated
vocals. You could probably fit this into a set, but you?d have to have
a whole set of dance music fucked up enough to pull it off. The trance
parts of ?Heartless? are offset only by the noise within. Death
stalker times, killer record. Dull Knife strikes again." -Doug
