Pete is clearly in my opinion, and by many others, who are far more experienced in national government than I am, as a voter, taxpayer, and former volunteer veteran Marine officer in Vietnam (who demonstrated to oppose the war), 9th Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1969-1970, and former emergency Interim Executive Director of the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans from 2024-2025, unfit for office.
Information, apparently disregarded by the Senate committee who affirmed him, apparently not only accepted his record of bad executive management of two veteran's nonprofit organizations, but at least one documented occasions when he was drunk, taken to his room, stating "Kill all Muslims"
Hardly the view that we expect of the head of our military which currently includes many Muslims, and adherens to many other religious faiths, including Jews, Hindus, Seventh Day Adventists etc. etc.. This is in accordance to our constitution,
The First Amendment of the Constitution contains two clauses related to religious freedom: the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause. The Establishment Clause prevents the government from making a law related to "an establishment of religion," which means that it cannot endorse a certain religion or become entangled in religious activities. This essentially describes the separation of church and state that is fundamental to American democracy.
Unlike you, who are focusing on the external symbols of Sec. Hegseth's official apparel I am focused on his apparently SECRET internal symbols - his absolute devotion to guiding principle as indicated by his chosen tattoos, which he is proud to expose.
To conclude that obscure, secretive, and not shared statements of his core values, and, more importantly his self-selected enemies of the United States, while he as Sec. of Defense, is in a position to urge the President of the US to put my grandchildren into harm's way, (let's be clear here there is no longer a required Congressional acceptance of a need to declare war) to be killed or injured, is unacceptable.
So his decision to wear an American flag on his breast is not only a distraction, but cry for change.
He needs to be removed ASAP, in order, most importantly, to protect our children, and our military men and women (many who face downgrading from their earned positions) in the current anti-DEI campaign.
As a "reluctant" warrior in the Vietnam era, but a proud veteran of the Marine Corps, I am truly concerned about the effect on the Corps, and the other branches of service, by Pete Hegesephs leadership. He is not the leader we need.
A national government leader who is guided by his body tattoos, is not reliable. Nor is someone who displays national symbols on their clothing.
Perhaps, it's time for Gandhi to remerge.
