Hi everyone,

I hope turkey-day went well for you all. Here's the wrap-up of last
week's meeting (with bad news first): 15 of the 16 briquettes we made a
few weeks back have been lost. They were drying in a kitchen cupboard
near my room in Few and I think housekeeping or someone bothered by the
smell tossed them. I left a note on the tray asking the reader to email
me if the briquettes needed relocating but I didn't hear anything...the
smell likely forced the perpetrator into a blind rage of briquette
destruction. It's odd though that one of the briquettes was left alone,
I believe it's trial 2a, one of our least moldy ones. We did get a
chance to use Amy and Jock's impact press and it works very well. We
made several briquettes with a tiny amount of flour binder and, if
they're durable enough, they'll burn far better than our old briquettes
(may they decay in peace). In other news, we were unsuccessful in
finding cassava (for binder) at Whole Foods, but we were told that it's
occasionally in stock so we'll check for it again later.

I was hoping we could have a meeting tomorrow, Monday, at 7pm in the
Teer basement. I'm sorry for emailing you all so late. I thought we
could make some more briquettes with the impact press and discuss the
feasibility of some of these alternative uses for charcoal:
water filters: http://pwn.com/guide3.html (er, yes, that's "pwn" dot com).
evaporative cooling:
http://www.appropedia.org/Evaporative_Cooling_%28original%29
medicinal: http://healingtools.tripod.com/thn5.html ("Charcoal from
burnt toast is not effective." haha)

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Matt
