Between 1802 and 1907 there was 591 Reid land patents issued by the
federal government.
From 1804 to 1948, most Reid immigrants to the U.S. came from
Scotland, England, and
Ireland. In 1840 there was 529 Reid families most of them living in
Ohio. The Civil War
in 1861-1865 had 1,055 Reid union soldiers and 1,469 Reid Confederate
soldiers.
In 1880 the top Reid occupations was the following
1) Keeping House
2) Farmer
3) Laborer
4) At Home
5) Farm Laborer
In 1881 England most Reid residents lived in London and Lancashire
countries.
In 1900 7,561 Reid families with most living in New York had average
household size of 4.73
In 1914-1918 World War 1 there was 8,815 Reid draft registrants, with
most registering in
New York. In 1920 they was 11,145 Reid households of which 44% owned
a home;
78% of the individuals were literate. In 1939-1945 World war 11 they
was 3,501 Reid
soldiers joined the U.S. Army. Most Reid veterans are buried in Long
Island National
Cemetery. Most Reid immigrants to the U.S. arrived in 1923. The Queen
Elizabeth is the
most common ship that Reid immigrants sailed on. Today most Reid
families live in
California and New York.
